I think it's time for me to come out of the "music" closet and confess that I am a fan of Prof. Peter Schickele. Any other fans out there? How about PDQ Bach? I just loved his most heavenly songs!<P>John<BR>

His "Mozart Opera by Borge" and his "Phonetic Punctuation" should be heard by everyone. There isn't half enough humour in music.<BR>I've never heard of Peter Schikele though? What is his speciality?<P>M.<P>

I once taped a Boston Pops broadcast with Schickele as guest. He told the story of a cello maker who did exquisite scroll work. They were magnificent except that middle C would not sound. Schickele milked the story for a lot more, but the upshot is that the cello maker was famous as the creator of the dead C scrolls.<BR>Shos

<BR>A while back I wasn't feeling that well and stayed home from school. It was Wednesday, one of the local public radio station's all request days, and someone had requested the 1712 Oveture by this fellow "P.D.Q. Bach". Supposedly, it celebrates J.S. Bach's only visit to America to fix an organ or something like that. It was perhaps the funniest thing I had ever heard, and for the next 20 minutes anyway, I was quite well. What's more this recording opened with a speech by a guy the host refered to as the "infamous" Peter Shickele. In it he is explaining what the work is about but is repeatedly interrupted by a pesky bee and is driven offstage by it.<P>He was also the perpetrator of the arranging of Pomp And Circumstance with human voices for the recent Fantasia 2000, I believe.<P>Bob
