Is beethoven.com perfect to play chess?

In my eyes it does the music calms me down and gets me in the mood for playing. But if you ask me I think Beethoven goes to all things especially driving a car

IMO, a serious game of chess requires silence. As much as I'd like to listen to listen to classical music while playing, it would be impossible for me to concentrate. I think it's because chess requires input from both hemispheres of the brain at the same time--the left for logic and strategy and the right for spatial awareness, tactics and also appreciation for the sheer beauty of the game.

BenG, don't fight the music, integrate it to color your moves.

If I find a conflict between music and something else (office chatter, home noise), I'll try to make it so the music wins and I elminate the other stuff.

What kind of classical music would you suggest? (And what goes best with Scrabble?) I have a feeling that females are better at this sort of multitasking.

I used to play, but haven't in a long time.

I recently bought a Mah Jongg set, and am wanting to learn to play. When I was in the Navy, we used to play a game with Mah Jongg tiles, but having read the instructions on how to play Mah Jongg (both American and Chinese versions), I've come to the conclusion that what we played was some fabricated game based on a card game, it certainly wasn't Mah Jongg.

Anyhow, in the meantime, I have fun stacking the tiles and playing Mah Jongg Solitare, like the computer game, even though it is a much slower process playing with real tiles.

Yup, I experienced that yesterday, playing against the computer in this very shoddy online chess site. It was almost like it knew the best move possible to counter what I was going to do (or it could read my mind).

Also played against my partner's 8 year old son 3 times yesterday, him winning 2x! But those were fun and learning more with each time I play.

So, in the game of chess, is bluffing a strategy? I don't understand the en passant move?

Which of these 3 do you find most valuable? 1) Rook 2) Knight 3) Bishop

So many questions.....It's such an interesting game!

I don't really know all the moves' names. I'm more the "spur of the moment" player.

And, Cat, you can download this if you want to play chess offline. The unregsitered version is just a demo, but it has enough games to discourage anyone. Also, it will suggest better moves if you're making the wrong ones.
