Top Ten American Composers

Postby hal 9000 » Tue May 10, 2005 1:59 pm

TrumpetMaster has selected the new topic, Top Ten American Composers. The eligible candidates are composers that were born in the United States. This topic will include film composers.

Please take a few moments to think of your favorite 10 American composers, list them in order of preference, and PM your list to me by Monday, May 16th, 2005 @ 5PM EST. Results will be posted that same evening. Good luck and let the game begin! :D

Hi Hal,

I just remembered my #1 entry on my list actually wasn't born in the U.S. However, I'd like to qualify him under special circumstance.

There! Sent a list. I even made it to 10 names, although I did include two Canadians. [quibble]It's the right continent, fer cryin' out loud! "Born in the United States", and then calling it "American", hmmmph![/quibble]

I thought about adding a couple of Canadians but considered that TM specified American, not North American, composers. If you're going to include the entire continent then Mexican composers are eligible, too. Of course, there are probably other composers in the same situation as Betsy Raum, who has been in Canada for decades and is considered a Canadian composer, but was born in the USA.

But I'd be surprised if the border guards at Sweetgrass, Montana looked at the maple leaf on my passport and then bought my story that I'm actually an American.
Cheers,
Angie

I'd include Mexicans. Venezuelans, too. And Bahama.

I expect the INS would probably disapprove of me. Ah, well, we all have our troubles.

Selma, I think those type of officials, irrespective of their nationality, wouldn't approve of their own grandmothers. I suspect they're all recruited from a pool of disaffected Parisian head waiters.

Please - I said "American" not North American.

We can use the other countries for other top 10's.

So is it "American" or "United States"?

Shos,
"American" - born in one of the 50 U.S. States

TM :)
