An update on my legal wranglings for those who may be interested in the coming trend:

Palomar hospital is apparently going to wait until the end of the CA supreme court term to see how the precedent setting case will come out. In the meantime, Mercy hospital has also placed and subsequently withdrew an additional lien on my settlement. Their charge for my 13 day stay was $162,000. My health insurance paid them $143,000, which is close to 90% of what they billed (unusually high from my experience). They nevertheless wanted the additional $19,000 from me. My lawyer told them she would like an independent review of the bill, and wagered that >$20,000 in padding would be found, at which point they withdrew the lien. However this turns out, I will go to one of our local TV news consumer advocates with this. My lawyer thinks this is a classic example and needs to be publicized, and I agree. I don't recall if I mentioned this earlier, but about six months ago Palomar-Pomerado Health Network hired a new CEO. His salary is $375,000 per year, plus as much as a 40% bonus based on the profitability of the business. Now I'm certain none of that has anything to do with my lien, right?

I'm feeling pretty durn good, all things considered. No pain to speak of, unless I'm pushing it in PT. My range of motion in my right shoulder and left knee are still limited and are improving very slowly. I have a follow up visit with my orthopaedic surgeon on the 22nd, and he'll give me a prescription for additional PT then, but we'll see what my HMO says about that. The biggest problem IMO is that my left leg swells considerably whenever I stand for any length of time (my old job was standing all day long, no way I can do that). Walking isn't a problem, just being relatively stationary. Last week I got on a treadmill for the first time, and was able to sustain 4.2 mph. When I do walk, I usually don't have a limp to speak of anymore, and of course, I can ride the bike. No 500 mile trips yet, but I can go for a fun ride around San Diego county without causing too much distress.

Thanks for asking.

The ones who don't are probably the least distressed.

Stealth motorcycling sounds like a good way to have an accident.

I really don't like to play Stealth when on the bike. Lots of bright lights in front, and I try to give all of the dangerous ones (cars) a wide berth whenever possible. :p

Thanks, Barfle, I just voted. M/C's were at 2.3%, dead last in the poll. Oh well, there's still hope for the rest of humanity.

After rereading the previous post, we've decided to at least let the cat peek out of the bag. Been so darn busy lately because Piq and I are preparing to get hitched!

Life is good! :)

OT are you for real! If so Congrats! I have to ask... As Promotions Director of the station I need to know if you two met because of Beethoven.com? If so I need to write a promo and get it on the air!

Congratulations to you both!

Any chance there will be a virtual ceremony we can all (virtually) attend?

And, OT, is Michelle still one of your interests?

Best wishes for a long life together.
