Road Rage
============

Schubert's music - the remedy for road rage

An American radio station is promoting classical music as the antidote to road rage.
WPR in Dallas has released a CD entitled Road Rage Remedy designed to soothe the frayed nerves of drivers. Schubert's Ave Maria is a particular favourite for the frustrated motorist.
Reports from record shops in the city say that the disc is "really flying off the shelf."

The killing of Road Rage was what finally put me over the hump.

For years I listened to Classical Music at work, at home, while reading/studying, whenever. All except for driving.

While driving I listened to either talk shows or Old Time Rock And Roll. I started to notice that I would be less observant while certain songs were on or when there was a topic I was interested in..."How to grow the best beets in Fargo, North Dakota" comes to mind :D

Ah, well, um. Let me see. However can I get out of this and still have a friend??? Let me try this: Most Classical music is relaxing. At least what I try to listen to whilest driving is relaxing. Opera generally tries to stir up emotions. Ah, OK?

Hi Donna,

That was pretty good! lol! :D I'd even have to concede your point on that one if I didn't know how you really feel about opera!

BTW, my older half brother is in town this week to visit me, and he'd heard some of my family members rave about Fat Ivor's, and was very disappointed to hear about the fire. We took a chance and went to the one in O'side, & it turns out the cook from VC is there! :D :D :D :D Except for not having the "fine art" around, it was as good as ever! :D

Instead of suppressing Road Rage with Schubert try feeding it with Wagner (e.g.,Ride of the Valkyries). It's quite Zen-like ("Be the road..").

Ohhhh, I'm picturing this. Nope, my insurance rates would go up WAY too high if I drove like a Valkyrie.

Mind you, I've got the hat and the pointy stick. My horse is a green Tercel and we can get from San Diego to Grand Rapids in 12 hours, but commuting with Valkyries on would only turn out baaaaadly.

<thread hijack>
the History channel is apparently doing "people determined to believe in UFOs" today. Last hour, it was the farmers who do cropcircles, for the amusement of watching the citified loonies for the next week or so, (I wonder if those farmers are named Ole and Sven and Lena) and this hour it's "Aliens caused all the miracles of the Bible". It's different faces, but all the arguments sound a little loony to me. I wonder if we get "aliens built the pyramids" later...

Future loonies will no doubt claim that aliens built the freeway system. Come to think of it, that could explain a lot. That and the fact that the local major freeway contractor is "Hazard & Co." I kid you not.

I think I'll get out a Wagner CD, drive around the freeways for a while, and see if aliens appear.

Let's change this thread to post Driving Experiences (good or bad)and music that accents your mood while driving. :D

I dislike drivers in the fast lane going slower than I am and not letting me through; when I see how slow they drive I get the Grand Canyon Suite in my head (the part that sounds like a donkey walking).

I've never heard of the Harley-Davidson album; thanks for the reference.

Does anyone listen to anything "newer" like Linkin' Park, Queens of the Stone Age, Staind, Creed, etc.? I know there's a Manson fan out there (I think under "Grotesque" thread--Do you have the Antichrist Superstar album, also?)

I remember a recent poll that stated that a large percentage of the listeners were into Jazz foloowed by Rock.

The Road Rage Quiz
==================

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are you ready to R..R....R....R....Rumble? Have you been accused of being a "RAGER" of the road kind? Have those drives into work or school become increasingly colourful in language and have the old road signals turned into gestures of the most obscene kind?
I f you have answered yes to any of these questions, then maybe it's time for you to test your ROAD RAGE QUOTIENT.
That is, if you have the patience to sit for five minutes, get a piece of paper and answer the following questions. If this is too difficult...then quick run and get the drug of choice: prozac, zoloft, valium or ritalin . (No alcohol please. This is a road quiz!)

OK......Ready? Start those engines....

1. If you are driving in traffic in the fast lane and the person in front of you is driving the speed limit do you:

a. slow down because you realize you are speeding

b. slow down, turn on your signals and move into the other lane, and eventually move back into the fast lane

c. tailgate the idiot

d. turn on your high beams and honk your horn and tailgate

e. zip into the slow lane; then zip into the fast lane while giving the finger and then slow down in front of the jerk.

f.If all else fails, shoot em.

c. swear at her telling her to "move her fat butt"

d. act like you are going to drive into her

e. drive into the spot just missing her by an inch

f.If all else fails, shoot em.
-------------------------------------------------

3. You are stopped at a traffic light and the light has just turned green. The person in front of you is chatting on a cell phone. Do you.
a. wait calmly, realizing that it will only be a second or two

b. wait a second, put on your signals and move into another lane

c. honk your horn and yell out your window "Pay Attention Idiot"

d. zoom up quickly behind the person, honking madly

e. zoom up behind ,swerve beside the person, ranting and raving then in the middle of the intersection slow down in front of the person and then zoom off.
f.If all else fails, shoot em.

-----------------------------------

4. A person is tailgating you. Do you:
a. as soon as it is safe, signal and pull into another lane

b. continue on because you are going the speed limit

c. stick your hand out the window and give them the finger

d. slow down even more and make it impossible for the idiot to get into another lane

e. slow down, then speed up, then slow down again and slam on the brakes.

f.If all else fails, shoot em.
------------------------------------

5. When you are in your car how often are you ranting and raving:
a. almost never

b. occasionally

c. most of the time
