Wow, big fish! Was it good eating?

OMG Lioness! I haven't been able to check in these past couple of weeks. . .I'm so sorry the rat-bastards screwed you over!! How horrible!

I'm glad you're holding your own and that you are getting well!

That's probably the best shot taken of a halibut on the trip, but it's certainly not the largest one we caught. Heck, it's the middle one of the three I caught that day! The biggest catch honor goes to my dad, with one that was in the ballpark of 18" longer than the one in the photo.

And yes, indeed, it was good eating (not that I could tell them apart - there were three of us on the trip, which lasted three days, and we each caught three fish per day - the legal limit, for a total of 27 halibut, all of which were over 3' long). We also each caught one king salmon per day, again the legal limit. And a week from right about now, I'll be landing in Sitka, ready to exert my hunter-gatherer evolutionary heritage.

None of them got away.

For that you can thank the other guy in the picture, the boat captain, who really did all the work. We just pulled 'em in.

SB,
In one of her previous posts she said she was backing off everything, posting includedand going to take it easy.
I have a feeling she's doing well not smoking. Just getting alot of well deserved CatNaps.

Thanks TM. I know she did, but we communicate via email too, so I was a LITTLE worried. . .

I hope she's ok and can't wait to talk to her again!

lioness - hope all is well with your health and smoking cessation! And job hunting, too!

I was reading some selections from this thread - yeah - bladder cancer is related to smoking - my grandma had that. Recovered fine, but now has emphysema. At 87, however, she's doing a lot better than my uncle with emphysema (age 60) - but the doctors say he's got a genetic lung vulnerability - probably what took out my grandpa when he had emphysema at age 58 (smoking 2+ packs a day and working at Phillip Morris probably didn't help either). My uncle's in line for a lung transplant - hope he gets it - he's got 5 grandkids - 3mo-8 years. I was 5 when my grandpa died and the oldest cousin was 8 - I'd hate to see that happen in the next generation.

With this family background (and alcoholism) I've stayed away from smoking and been very careful with my drinking ('course a half a beer gets me tipsy after not drinking at all through pregnancy and Pumpkin's first 6 months - only occaisonal since then).

Anyway, thought if someone weighed in we might get a reply from lioness....
