Congrats Lioness! :D

btw - my uncle is still doing well with the new lung. My parents report that while he's still a bit weak from the surgery, his voice is back to full volume and his personality is back to normal. He should be able to come back home in November (although, they may stay in NJ until March rather than come back to a Rochester winter).

good to hear Schmeelkie!

I personally can't help but wonder if he's in Hackensack. From what I remember, they are a phenomenal hospital for such things.

The morning of the trip all 4 tires of the jeep were slashed. This put a definite financial damper on many things. It seems this was the 4th incident within the past week at the apartment complex this has happened. In every report, all 4 tires were slashed and all were single women.

actually we think it's a gall sand blockage in a bile duct again. seems to happen every few years since gall bladder surgery. the sand still forms. everything will be fine.

LA is a great place! Looks, feels, smells like home. (and it's the main reason I don't think Albuquerque has traffic, despite my aunt's opinion that the traffic has gotten horrible.)

Glad the trip was enjoyed, despite the problems. Hope you got some fish tacos!

Hi Lioness,

Fish tacos are indeed terrific. Best place for 'em around here is Rubio's, but most of the Roberto's-type taco stands have them, too.
They're breaded, served with cabbage instead of lettuce, and has a special white sauce instead of salsa(but people routinely add salsa).

Fish tacos -
I must take exception with one thing noted in the description above.
They are batter-fried, not breaded.
In addition to the white sauce, they get a generous squeezing of lime.
They are indeed delicious. We live close to Rubio's #1 (the original). Rubio is the guy who first brought the commercially available fish taco from Baja to the US. Prior to that, the only place to buy them was in San Felipe, I believe.

We served them in college for a big party - major hit. I dont know whether the party or the trip to Ensenada to buy supplies (fresh fish, fresh corn tortillas and tequila) was more fun, but both were grand!

lioness - actually my uncle had the surgery in Philadelphia (can't remember which hospital, Jefferson, maybe?), but his kids all live in the Milville area, so that's where he's staying. but my dad and uncle did grow up near Hackensack (Dumont, actually) - my grandma lived in that house for more than 50 years! need to call him soon....
