I zoomed in and I think it takes your zip code and places it in the center of some coordinates as my location on the map show me south of the Southern State Parkway. I'm actually about 1/4 mile north of the Southern State Parkway..

Are there stories behind some folks' photos? Treebeau - that's a nice batch of planer shavings. Do you work in oak?

treebeau - I was thinking along the lines of: snowman with scoops taken out, snowman next to him eating a snowcone; mutant snowmen; snowdog peeing on our tree; anything from the snowman 'house of horrors', etc. Got a series of these comics on my computer at home for the uninitiated....

Will take pictures if we ever do anything interesting. Got a little snow last Friday, didn't last the day, as expected. However, they're calling for 5 inches by the lake (which is where we live) tomorrow. We'll see - that lake effect snow is a tricky devil to forecast.

I do work with oak. The picture shown was sycamore shavings. SINCE taking that picture I have dumped the cart, filled it with cherry shavings, dumped that, filled it with poplar shavings, and dumped that.

I am making some custom picture frames out of sycamore and cherry to give as Christmas gifts...10 total but each one is a frame in a frame, so it's like making 20. Been documenting the process.

And over the weekend a friend came over and we started working on a DVD cabinet he wants.

I'm starting to take up cabinet making myself, treeb. I took a couple of classes, making a night stand with a raised panel door and a dovetailed drawer, and now I'm branching out into doing a few things on my own.

My laundry room (a saga in itself) now has a cabinet covering the sump and it's about to hold a laundry sink (once the top gets delivered). The doors are in process. I got convinced to make doors for all the cabinets in the room the same, so I'm making ten of them in three different sizes, but all styled the same. I'm making these out of poplar, because it's cheap and takes paint well. I'll graduate to nicer stuff when I start working on bookshelves for the "library", and then the real project - racks for all of my AV gear!

I have a kitchen project about to start. Coming from S Fla it's still a shock to be able to get hardwood. They burn oak and walnut for heat here!!! A friend has a sawmill and I'll be doing oak for the kitchen cabinets.

BTW, I happen to LIKE the look of poplar as is. All my bedroom furniture will one day be natural poplar, from a tree in my backyard. I started on a chest of drawers and it was going great. But I glued too much of the frames into the side panels. I had made those panels especially to look like wide boards coming out of the center of a BIG tree. With contraction the side panels split. So I scrapped that cabinet. The NEXT one will be made with sliding dovetails to allow for the wood movement.
