Stump Nicole Marie (Quiz II)

Postby The Riddler » Wed Feb 14, 2001 9:05 am

The other "BB topic" was getting a bit large, so I thought I would start a new one. Good luck on these riddles, Nicole:
A single instrument, this song type does cast,
with an interesting mix of movements of three:
The first I am quick and third I am fast,
with a slow second in different key.
Some say I enjoy the night on a lit occasion.
What am I?

Happy Valentines Day to everyone!!!

Very good, Ethan. A Sonata it was.
It is riddle time for Nicole Marie:
I was first made in Sumeria in 3000 B.C.
Double-action development 48 centuries from that.
Can be tuned, but only in flat.
Cannot be chimed nor banged nor blown,
wind was once used to make the tone.
Do not be fooled, this item you play,
for the heavenly noise is still heard today.
What could I possibly be?
JasonK - I agree. Nicole has some evil music database with all the answers to our questions. Perhaps she owes US slurpees? Personally, I would enjoy a Banada/Strawberry Shake with Choc. syrup on top. Nicole!!! You owe us!!!

No, no I am pretty much figure she knew that given her affinity for the Russians....so she got me, but the questions will get harder.
For a Zagnut Bar and an autographed picture of Sarah Brightman:
True or False, the Russians incorporated the Anvil into their major works after the revolution because it reflected the more austire work ethic of the common worker, instead of the more elitest triangle or gong....

Does anyone know the name of the piece that used to play on the Ernest & Julio Gallo commercial that played in the 80's and 90's? The title says something about a wedding, I think.

Geez, I was feeling bad about stealing Nicole's thunder on the Moonlight Sonata. I was thinking I should have dropped a hint or two, instead of just blurting out the answer. Looks like nobody even cared, though. I was also feeling bad about the last quiz I gave her; it was so hard, so many dependent variables. Few if any hard clues. So, my apologies, and a new quiz for Nicole.
I once ran across a story -- I don't know how factual -- about how Beethoven composed the Moonlight Sonata. Nicole, just tell the story. And, ah, the prize. . . . . . well, its a really nice story, so telling it ought to be a prize in itself.
-- Ethan Adams

Don't feel bad, Ethan. I have a feeling "Gorgeous" Nicole Marie wouldn't be able to get that one. Image Although, we are finding out now that she has a full-time staff telling her all the answers to our questions. She's buying us dinner!
Isn't Moonlight Sonata such a great piece? One of my favorites!!
