Who's the best?

.....cellist, I mean?<P>I ask this for purely selfish reasons---to expand my CD collection in this area. I'm vaguely familiar with Yo-Yo Ma and Ha-Nan Chang, but that's about it.

Add Lynn Harrel to the list. I've seen him perform and was impressed.<P>I don't know if he's done any solo work or recordings, but Timothy Landaur is the principal cellist for the Pacific Symphony Orchestra, and he's incredible.

You MUST get Rostropovitch! A CD I guard with my life is on the Erato label # ECD 88224. It features Rostropovich performing Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme and his version is unreal! Also Ros has a new CD on the Naxos lable which features all of Bach's Cello Suites and that is a must as well.

I hate to be so concise, but is true that to DuPre really does make anybody else just second. However if you are looking for a small time performer, there is Southern Cellist that plays randomly for non=profit organizations. His name, please forgive me if I misspell it, is Masuyama.
