Rent is a musical on Broadway that is heavily based on La Boheme. Several years ago I was dragged to it by three teenage girls (a friends daughter and her two friends.) since I go into New York a lot and the parents all figured that I'd keep them safe...I'm not a big fan of teenage girls...they're lucky they weren't sold off at the Port Authority...

But this is what they wanted to see, so I said okay, I get to pick the restaraunt (should have gone to McDonalds - they were more interested in who was famous in the restaraunt than what was in front of them, which was, of course, salad, since, in infinite teenage female wisdom, if anyone famous saw them, then they didn't want to be seen actually eating food!).

The music was loud, abrasive and poorly mixed (I know, I know, it's Rock and Roll, but I've been to Ramones concerts where the music was clearer), the microphone levels were set and taped down, so god forbid one of the singers actually projected their voices, and I couldn't give a damn about a single one of the snotty, whiney, too wealthy for their own good, living in apartments I'll never afford, dripping with angst, characters.

The set was cool and the lighting good, and i'm convinced that's why it's popular...isn't that what passes for culture these days? Oooooohhhhh...pretty colors....

Had to listen to the teenage girls rave about it all the way home. Should have sold them off at the Port Authority...

Sigh...hated Cats too, but that's another story...

Were you aware of another commercial success based on La Boheme? That would be Moulin Rouge. How would you compare that to Rent?

Haven't seen it, honestly...I love a good musical but Chicago is slightly above it in "need to see", due to the fact that I really am not a Nicole Kidman fan.

Chicago is 19th on my "rent it on a rainy night when you have nothing else to do, nothing you own seems appealing, you don't feel like dedicating a few hours to the playstation, you've surfed all your web sites, you have no photographs to work on, nothing to read, don't feel like writing, and it's too late to practice drums."

Or 1st on the list of "a really hot girl that I'm interested in asked nicely."

Needless to say, I won't be seeing either Chicago or M. rouge anytime soon.

That would be Moulin Rouge. How would you compare that to Rent ?

Can't speak for Rent as it just did not appeal to me but I loved Chicago both on Stage and in the Theatre and really thought Moulin Rouge was the cleverest of all.

Y'all might be interested in this NPR Wal-Mart Special. I learned quite a bit from it, for instance that Wal-Mart executives have to sleep at Motel 6 and that Wal-Mart keeps incredibly meticulous records of sales and use this data to great advantage, not only for the company, but also for the customer.

They charge (for clothes) by the yard - XXL sizes cost more than S-M-L.
I am experiencing this first hand!

I got pretty good at pregnant clothes. Oddly, styles haven't changed since I was pregnant. I guess there are only so many things to be done with the pregnant shape.

Yes, but a class action with 1.6 milliom plaintiffs will cost them dearly if they lose.
