Hmmm... We seem to have a soprano fan here... Better not let Donna get wind of this....

lol Donna. she was a good in acting with her voice. but she ruined her voice early in her career so she was screechy, woblly for most of her career.

And, how did this differ her from other sopranos?

Birgit Nilsson was not screechy and wobbly. Kathleen Battle is not etc.

I know Verdi said that. I like perfection.
I saw someone complain about Pollini that his playing sounds like a machine and he can't hear the human in the music. I thought: "great! I just can't stand humans, I don't need them getting into my music."
ok I'm exagerating. :o
Oh and the last post should've been adressed to Donna. (who was asking about the existence of non wobbly sopranos).

I don't wobble. Stagger occasionally, but no wobble. Honest.

There are a few old recordings of Callas before her voice went, and it was drop-dead lovely. I don't know if it was lifestyle that did her in, or if she just had a fragile instrument that wasn't up to the career stresses, but the later recordings, which are better recordings, don't have the same voice in it. When she was younger, her voice was richer, stronger, and had wonderful depth.

I know some of yez complain bitterly about us sopranos, but honestly, it's hard to squeak lovely. Hard, I say.

I don't suppose there would be a decent recording of Deanna Durbin in the B.com library, would there?
