Do you have one of the Mehta DVD Turandots? i was just reminded about this when I saw on the other board that Maestro Levine (what a cool name, Maestro ) has a DVD Turandot coming out on August 12th.

You ain't seen nuttin' yet! As the trip progressed, I got better at finding strategic poses for her. That is, until she was Lula-knapped for a few days, BY ALTOS NO LESS! And I thought you were my friends!

BTW, the guard didn't even look down while I put her next to him.

Eugy, I don't have any Turandot DVD's, but I have the same CD set you have.

I have two copies of Turandot on LP and one on laser disc. No 8-tracks or shellac, though.

I'm afraid I don't have any cylinder recordings or Turandot, either. Although the albums would be interesting... :confused:

July 24:

We left Pargue for Salzburg, stopping in Freistadt, Austria for lunch. It seemed to me as we crossed the border into Austria that the colors got brighter and everything was cleaner and more orderly (not that the Czech Republic was shabby). We first encountered rain between Freistadt and Salzburg, and it seemed to follow us all the way to Venice, which everyone was glad for, as opposed to the heat we'd been warned about. Since it was raining, it was impossible to get any photos that night, But I couldn't resist photographing dinner again. This is Sea Bass on a bed of noodles in champagne sauce: <img src="http://www.operatenor.100megs24.com/Seabass.jpg" alt=" - " />

This was dessert. The cone is chocolate with chocolate mousse inside, the white is white chocolate mousse, with cherries in the corners and covered with cherry and cream sauce: <img src="http://www.operatenor.100megs24.com/Dessert.jpg" alt=" - " />

After dinner, on the way back to the hotel, we crossed through the Mirabel (sp?) gardens. Just as we set foot in the park a firework went off practically over our heads! We continued until we came to a couple of Polezei, and stood about 30 feet from where they were launching a fireworks show in honor of some celebration for the Buergermeister.

July 25:

Several of us went out on our own exploring the old part of Salzburg. We toured Mozart Haus, but not his Geburtshaus. We were told it wasn't worth going into. In the Haus there were a lot of interesting things to see and an excellent movie at the end of the tour. Along the way we came across this statue street performer: <img src="http://www.operatenor.100megs24.com/Gold.jpg" alt=" - " />

This fountain is adjacent to the Dom (cathedral) where Mozart's parents were married. Brownie points if you can find Lula. I recall someone syaing this was in The Sound of Music, but I could be wrong: <img src="http://www.operatenor.100megs24.com/Fountain.jpg" alt=" - " />

That evening we had a dinner and concert at Golling Castle, which is about 20km outside of Salzburg. After dinner, they had a regular Bavarian parade in the main street: <img src="http://www.operatenor.100megs24.com/Parade.jpg" alt=" - " />
When I set Lula in the street, a group of about seven Austrian guys across the street almost fell down laughing.


Before the concert we went out on the castle bridge and sang a song to attract attention, which went very well, and then went inside and sang our concert in the courtyard of the castle. The concert went well and was well received.

Ein bischen, natuerlich. It seemed to me that in Austria they were a little more forgiving of my poor German than in the Fatherland.

However, my German is better than my Italian. When we were in Riva del Garda, three of us rented scooters and rode around the lake. We stopped at a ristorante, and the people there couldn't speak English, so we ended up conversing in German.
