OT, how long is the wait for the contract(s) usually? Do you get any advance information on what they are going to offer you? or is it like standardized testing, where you wait months, then comes the envelope that is half scary to open....?
This is a fascinating new world. thanks for the peephole into it.

Hi Piqaboo,

It usually takes about four weeks to find out, and when I do, I'll get a contract listing the shows they would like to hire me for, along with the latest rehearsal schedule. It's kinda funny, the contract's in quadruplicate (goldenrod copy - AGMA), but it's not carbon or NCR, so each copy has to be signed individually. Thanks for asking.

Alright!! Two to keep you twice as busy!

Do you have a chance at being a soloist for either of them? When do those decisions get made?

Fun fun! Congrats!

OT, can I have your autograph? Now you'll be able to afford a backup for the flame retardant suit!

Thank you all. Piqaboo, you don't know the half of it (warning! Turandot story forthcoming!).

Owlice, thanks. If your friends are going to one of those shows, would they like to see backstage? I know somebody who works there that might be willing to give a post-show tour....

In case anyone cares or is curious, here's what my contract looks like:

I have several friends and relatives who live in the San Diego area, including my concert violinist brother-in-law. He'll certainly be told about the shows.

Break something (but not another leg)!

Opera Talk is a show that's on the UCSD cable channel, from time to time. The university and the SDO jointly produce the thing, and last night they were doing Turandot. There were shots of the costumes, lots of background (Ping, Pang, and Pong are Ping, Pang, and Pong because those were the stage names of the Chinese acrobats that first played the parts.) It was very cool.

Saw the thing, and (naturally) thought of our favorite tenor choristor. :D
