About Bolero: Does the station have a policy of airing a song a limited number of times in spite of the number of requests? I notice that some selections are very popular and are played repeatedly throughout the week.

Welcome to the bulletin board. I don't believe there is a policy, although they try not to play the same pieces to often. Bolero, since you can't get it out of your head after it's been played,

There was a short-lived feature at B.com a while back which banned a particular piece of music for a week, and Bolero was the hands-down winner for the first week. I don't recall any more after that, but maybe this bears resurrecting.

Bolero is on, I'm happy. Thought I'd share today's visual.

Today, Bolero is being danced by a half-dozen reticulated pythons, in pink and lavender tulle.

Really. I can see them. They're right there on the inside of my forehead, and it's getting pretty tangled up on stage. The tulle is doomed.

Bolero makes for some pretty steamy reptilian visuals.

I have a cd alarm clock and once had bolero on to wake me up. Now, it usually takes me a while to get up in the morning and so by the time bolero came to an end (14 or so minutes later), it was the loud crash at the end that would really make my eyes open up though the slow crescendo was helpful to encourage me to get ready to get out of bed. Eventually my body completely ignored it so I had to switch CDs. I posted this on a previous bolero thread but Rufus Wainwright's "Oh What a World" has bolero incorporated into the song and can be heard at his site (rufuswainwright.com).

I find Bolero listenable only when I can dedicate the fifteen or so minutes and really listen to it. For me it's too captivating for background music. shouldn't be interrupted.

I first heard it as a teenager and was entranced by the tones of the different instruments as they joined in. Never had I heard such sounds!

Just a couple years ago I saw one of Leonard Bernstein's old black&white TV shows where he introduces orchestral music to children. He used Bolero, announcing each instrument as it chimed in. Of course he made that show years before BD gave the piece its scarlet A.

So I can say, as someone totally unqualified to comment on music, that Bolero does get young people started in classical music.

If Bolero has become a "fallen woman", well, that's sorta in the ear of the beholder.

I too encountered BOLERO for the first time as a teen. It was the very first vinyl LP that I ever bought. It also turned me on as never before that time to serious music. I have listened to it on many recordings and formats over many years now and it still holds for me an excitement and pleasure as ever before.

It's not everyone's "cup of tea" but I'm glad Ravel wrote it, whatever reasons he had for doing so.

You're too late, John. That happened a while back, Nicole Marie was all for continuing the ban, but some of us missed it and wanted Bolero back.

It seems Bolero is like liver , or okra , or bagpipes .
