Mr. Sincere

Postby redlover1 » Wed Aug 20, 2003 5:31 pm

Nicole,

I was reading the message boards near the end of your shift and decided to head to the webcam to see Mr. Sincere since I have yet to ever see him. I have thus far seen Eric, Dan and yourself live via the webcam. So far, all I have seen is an empty chair at your Hartford studio. Does he broadcast from a different room or location then in Hartford? Does anyone else know the answer? Inquiring minds want to know :p

Thanks!

Devin

I have never heard Mr Sincere take requests or announce what's playing. I tend to think his voice is pre-recorded and interspersed by whoever actually chooses the music. The station's offerings, between Nicole in the evening and Eric in the morning, seem to be automated. Someone, possibly Mr Sincere, must be there to monitor the automation, but no one needs to be in the room with webcam. That's my guess.

Mr. Sincere is canned. See the "B.com evening host?" thread. Us folks out here on the left coast are quite well aquainted with the prerecorded man.

Many radio stations are automated. I know at least one radio station in Los Angeles that was automated in 1966. Beethoven radio is automated except M-F 8-6. The announcements are prerecorded, and the program list is probably entered in well ahead of time by a staff member. They probably don't have anyone on site better than half the time, although they may have staff members assigned to monitor the signal by listening for any problems.

There are many ways to automate a radio station. I can't say exactly how beethoven is set up, because I'm just a listener with enough knowledge to be dangerous, but I know of several possible ways to do it. I would expect they use some ideas from here, some from there, and some from somewhere else, to tune up their programming to best fit their intended audience.

Thanks guys! I didn't know about the other thread on the bulletin board. I read it and you guys made some very good points. The only question I now have is why be so cryptic about who Mr. Sincere is? HEHE if it were me, I would just say he's the automated evening host and be done with it. But then again, there might be more to it in the radio biz instead of simply admitting that. What do I know hahahah!

Mr Sincere likes to keeps things low key. You'll never find out much about him but I can assure you he is a real guy and is in the building. In fact, I just had a meeting with him. That's all I can say.

I have a friend who does a radio show every morning. Only, it's automated. She goes in once a week and records all the spots and then they program them to play. She even does the time. "It's 10:00 o'clock, it's 11:00 o'clock, etc."
She used to do live radio, but now she has three little kids, and doesn't have the time.

Automation explains why the breaks don't always fit. I generally get the night shift of course, living about 18 hours away, and while I like Mr. S's voice & manner, I find the station breaks and ads often go a little bit adrift and overlap.
