Opera Season in your neighbourhood

LOL Marye! I think they're more expensive than that here (If you convert them I mean) or at least they're more expensive than that if you plan on going to the opera and SEEING it.

20 years huh? I think it's been about that long. jk! Umm oh yeh, duh! I don't hafta think about how long ago i saw my first opera. I havent seen one! haha! I haven't been able to stand those sopranos or those manly tenors for that long. So Turandot will be my first one. (Better be a good one. There better not be a tenor in the chorus sing off key!! :p )

More likely the other parts will be off key, for not being able to hear themselves over the tenors..... :p

Prices here about the same as Marye gave, but in $US, for decent seats. Can get seated for ~ $35, but take those handy dandy opera glasses, and glue 'em on. The arms will get too tired to hold them up. Also, wear walking shoes. Its an interesting hike to the higher altitudes.

Ticket prices at the SDO run from $40 to $140 US (I think that about 3 to 73 gillion dollars Canadian ). The San Diego Civic Center seats about 3,000, and IMO to get a decent seat one needs to plan on spending at least $100 a ticket.

Mary, you're right. I've only seen an opera from the stage. I really should attend one sometime!

Shos, I mean having a well rounded opera. not an opera with parts ytou always skip. also too much verismo and melodrama can get on even my nerves. that's balance (among other things ).

I'm one of those who does attend opera (the term itself being a plural, so is operas redundant?) but hasn't had the chance to since my life upheaval and going east, old man, going east.

I've attended operas on three continents (if you want to call Australia a continent), but even with the great performing arts setup here in DC, I've only attended two symphonies in the past year.


But my wife and I are both getting real tired of working on the house all the time, and even though my basement is the next project, I hope we get out of the house for a few more performances this winter. Strav, do you know what's on the calendar?
