I had the opportunity to perform a number of Verdi Opera's. My favorite is La Traviata.
It's very different sitting in the orchestra pit playing and watching (when you can) the opera as sitting out in the audience.

I did not appreciate Opera performances until I started playing in the pit. It's incredible what goes into the production.

I'm not the biggest Opera Fan but over the years have developed an appreciation for it.

Howard K.. I knew a violinist who absolutely preferred to be playing in the orchestra of an opera. She just loved it. Sadly, this lovely young mother and very talented woman died last year of ovarian cancer. I don't believe she was 40. When I read your post, I thought fondly of Julia. Thank you for helping me to remember her.

Mary,
Sorry to here about your violinist friend.
I'm a classically trained trumpet player.
About a year ago I lost a good friend of mine to cancer(also a trumpet player) who played many concerts with me. Many memories going back to when we won the North American Brass Band Championship.
Glad my post brought back fond memories.
Regards,
Howard

I was forewarned. I listen to what HRH says, and pretty much I believe her. I continued listening in the hopes that she was just foolin' with me, but alas, a soprano trying to sound macho started coming out of my speakers, so I listened to my Three Mo' Tenors CD for the rest of the work day.

There are a few pieces of music that simply aren't "music to my ears," and that's one of them. I don't expect b.com to cater to my every whim, but I don't see any reason to put myself through that non-musical vocal exercise. :p
