Here in Sandy Eggo, we have a wonderful outdoor organ at Balboa Park. Free concerts are given every Sunday afternoon from 2-3pm, and there is a summer evening concert series, usually two months long, every week, where programs are given by guest organists. Additionally, there are holiday and special event concerts, such as silent film nights, where the organ is played as accompaniment to a silent film.
The organ was built in 1915 and donated by John D. Spreckels, as part of the park built for the 1915 World Exposition. It was orginally stipulated that the organ was for the enjoyment of the citizens of San Diego, and all concerts given would be free. There is currently a society for the preservation and promotion of the organ.
This is their website.
I feel this is one of San Diego's cultural treasures, and anyone visiting should check it out.
