Names for Children and/or Pets (aka children)

Since my mom forbade dogs, we had rabbits...I think a dog would have been easier to keep alive.
bunny #1: mr. peepers - because he liked playing hide and seek under the newspapers and blankets. killed by stray cats
bunnies 2&3: belle and phillipe - i was taking french and okay, i enjoyed beauty and the beast way too much back then. don't remember what happened to them since we left them with people while on vacation and never got them back.
bunny #5: white bunny- was prenamed so I don't remember - given to a preschool for kids with special needs
bunny #6: emily - died of old age...or obesity - that was one fat dwarf bunny.

we had 2 love birds but on one escape while clipping wings, one got too close to the ceiling fan. The other one died a week or so later. Our fish committed suicide - we came home and every week a fish was dead on the floor in front of the tank. they weren't named.

I kill mint plants too and that's a weed and should be indestructable so I think until I get a responsible mate, I'll hold off on kids...though holding my niece made me think I needed a kid soon. I think I don't do well with animals/things that can't make a sound to indicate a need for attention. I have yet to kill a patient so don't worry!

i feel your pain with the plants. i would love to have an herb garden. even just potters around the balcony would be nice. i'd just kill 'em all again.

I only just now read your post from Feb 4th. I've never heard of that breed before. What's their temperment? Someday Altoid will want a dog, and though we're leaning toward a resuced mutt, I'm always willing to learn about different breeds.

PS. It's been awhile since we Randomized, but it would be great if you and yours can join us next time we do!

You aren't familiar with the breed because bouv people like it that way. Not because we're snobby, but because we're protective of something very special. Bouviers are wonderful dogs, with a very steady temperment. But if you aren't comfy being Alpha, forget it. Go to Amazon and look up "Your Purebred Puppy: A Buyer's Guide" by Michele Welton. For people serious about a dog, bouviers are great. They do everything from police work to herding, carting and therapy work. But if you're not willing to add what amounts to a furry, eternal toddler to your household for up to 13 years, get a fish.

Just two cats. Ming-tu Paperbiter Pintoes is the siamese, there's also a tuxedo cat named Thomas Edward Peabody Pussycat. Ming is beta cat (I'm alpha cat)(He's also theoretically my cat) and my daughter Deb is his preferred person. Thomas is omega cat, sweet but dumb, theoretically belongs to Deb, preferred person is my husband Gil.

I'm the second-choice person, chief procurement specialist, and principal cleaning staff.

Our neighbors had a Bouvier we called the chrome dog. They would trim the hair regularly and when it was trimmed his hair had an incredible silver shine that resembled chrome. Amazing!

This weekend April 2 and 3 is National Pet Adoption Days! Petco stores will host local animal shelters and have pets available for adoption. They are also working with http://www.petfinder.com/ to adopt animals. If you can't make it to a Petco visit PetFinder.com. You type in your zip code and type of animal you are looking for and they will search local shelter for that pet! (It's how I found my two pit bulls.) They only post animals in shelters, no pet stores thankfuly.

About 6 years ago we adopted our dog from a no kill shelter here on Long Island.
She had it pretty rough here first 2 years.

She has separation anxiety. She used to howl, chew up remote controls, go to the bathroom all over peoples houses, etc...

My wife worked from a home office at the time. Perfect match as having her there the first few years calmed her down and she was able to train her. She still has her anxiety attacks, but we found the rawhide chew sticks work wonders to calm her down.

She is such a great dog..(Mostly Viszla - Hungarian Hunting dog).

If I hit the lotto, I'd buy a HUGE farm upstate, adopt and take care of all unwanted animals.

To all - you'd be amazed what loving, great animals have been thrown out into the street and are out there waiting for a loving home to go to.

We go back to the shelter with her each year, the staff there remembers her well and can't believe what we have done with her!

She is definitely an angel from above!

YRH: what a wonderful reminder!

Whenever I <finally and hopefully within the next year> quit my lousy job, I plan on staying home, getting two dogs (from local shelter) and having babies.

I can't see paying money to buy a bred dog when there are literally thousands of terrific pets that could die because someone didn't bother to neuter/spay their pet. . .we will definitely head to the shelter when we get ready to get our dogs. .

Well, I am married- no children of the human kind.
BUT.............
Green-cheek Conjure-Parrot "Louie" named after my character in the first play I acted in as "Uncle Louie in Lost In Yonkers. Louie is 3 years old.

Cat- "Ashes" long-haired, gray and she is a beauty. Ashes is 3 years old.
