Favorite Place to Vacation??

Seeing as it's summer, and we've had a thread about where people are going this summer, how about a thread where you tell your absolute favorite place to vacation?

If I'm going on a relaxing vacation, then I absolutely adore the Royal Bahamian resort by Sandals in the Bahamas. They do all-inclusive, and you can't get much more romantic!

My favorite place used to be a resort hotel in Cabo San Lucas called The Palmilla. That was when it was owned by local Mexicans. It's been bought by a chain now, and it's lost all of its charm.

I really like vacationing in southern California.....wait....oh, yeah.....I live there.

So obviously I love beaches for relaxation. But if I'm in the mood for a more strenuous vacation, I highly recommend Bavaria to anyone who loves mountains!
Definitely a beautiful area, and so full of history!

I like vacationing in Italy. Particularly Rome and Florence. I am nuts about Renaissance and Baroque painting and sculpture. Michelangelo, Donatello, and all the other Ninja Turtles. Italy is like Mecca when it comes to that.

We went to Northern Italy in 1995 and had a great time, especially in Venice. Unique scenery, incredible music, and gelato, gelato, gelato. They can keep their pizzas and pastas; ours is better. But the Italians make ice cream like nobody else, even the copycats here who call their concoctions "gelato." It's just not the same.

Of course, Pisa has a great signifigance to a techie geek like me, because, according to legend, Galileo dropped two different weight cannon balls from the leaning tower, testing whether Aristotle's statement of heavy objects falling faster than light ones was correct. That event is generally regarded as the first scientific experiment.

We often just go camping in National Parks or Monuments. That's why we have a 4x4, so we can take the roads less traveled. Sometimes we go to fancy places (like Europe, or on a cruise) but for the most part, we go camping, which really, really gets the office out of my head.

I love Bavaria and I hate snow so I recommend it during the summer and all the way up until early October. You can rent a car and make a circle through Bavaria, Austria, Northern Italy and back into Germany.

Alternatively, I can recommend several out of the way spot in Thailand, my favorite is a small island just of the coast of Thailand in the Gulf of Thailand called Koh Samet. It's isolated and you have to take a ferry to get there. There's no real roads, so the ferries go to each resort. It's a little primitive, but isolated and fun. If your looking for posh, look at Koh Samui island. It's gorgeous and now has air service from Bangkok.
