Too bad there's no "jealous" icon, because I most certainly am!

Anywhere near St. George?

Welcome camper. The Virgin River Gorge must be beautiful this time of year. Golf and buffets in Mesquite. I think everyone up there's a deer hunter.

I had to look Kenab up - you are way out there. Looks like the closest decent quilt shop would either be in Durango, or Las Vegas. That would never do...

How about bookstores?

One book store is LDSish (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) aka Mormon.
The other book store is nature-eclectic. Appeals to hikers and geologisits.
The geology out here is an open book. I can look out behind my house and see twenty five sedeimentay layers in a 600 foot cliff face.. all from the Sundance sea of some 50 million years ago.

Visit http://www.kanabco.com/rancho

They have some very preacticed quilt makers here who have been sticking needles in their fingers for at least six generations.

Many deer hunters but the biggest employer in the whole county is The Best Freinds Animal Sanctuary
http://www.bestfriends.org
And most of them are vegan.. hunters are frowned upon but the area behing my house (about one million acres) is noted for having the largest trophy deer in north America if that floats your boat.

Yeah tell me about Piq! I'm in the process of house hunting and looking for something in the middle of nowhere. Camper's place is giving me hope! (My motto for my new house is "I'd like a house far enough away from people that they wouldn't find my body for several days.")

that's how I feel too. A cabin in the mountains that's an hour away from good shopping, etc, would make me the happiest person.

Unfortunately, there are no mountains here, and my husband would die without other human company. I would be content communing with the trees and wildlife. :)

I know an excellent realtor in Northern Virginia. We did suffer from sticker shock when we moved here, but believe it or not she found us a house that fits both of our needs and was almost affordable. I've posted a few pictures on the thread about tree surgeons.

Now that my wife has a decent job, it's much easier.

Also, home prices are going ape here. The house has gone up almost $100,000 in the three years I've owned the place, and although I expect to have the nicest laundry room east of the Mississippi by summer, we really haven't done all that much to the place.

that's amazing, barfle. I thought houses around here were pricey. We paid 132k for ours, and it's fairly small 1500ish square feet. But it's in a really nice neighborhood with a park and all (which is important in a college town). We're essentially out of the main part of the cities, (near either the college or the university) so it works. On days when it's really crowded in town, we don't really see it unless we choose to go into town (ie football game days).

It's nice.

Sounds like your house is in an amazing locale. .. I know the backyard is gorgeous!

Want some scary numbers? 8 years ago (this Friday, in fact) we moved into our place in East County San Diego and paid $164K for 1300sqft. Comps in the neighborhood have our size house going at -- sit down -- $485 to $515K, depending on the "view". And this is 30 miles inland, so no waves in site. Just cheesy little hills.

We have given serious thought to getting OUT of California. But with one daughter still in HS and parents in their 80's, we're here for a while. :(

We moved up here from Newport Beach about five years ago.. can you imagine what a Condo four blocks from the beach would be worth today? Oh well... I think I'd still take the advice of the Steve Miller Band---

They got the money, hey
You know they got away
They headed [up north] and they're [living well] today
Singin' go on take the money and run
Go on take the money and run
