Does anyone DVD anymore?

I have given up reading as it gives me bad ideas. Since knowledge can be dangerous I have subscribed to Netflicks and have taken up something much more relaxing: watching graphic violence and gratuitous sex on the little screen. Since I know that most of you read all the time I do not expect much support but what the heck... I'll ask anyway. Can anyone suggests a good movie I should next order from Netflicks? Just wathced Sideways and have an appointment tomorrow with out patient surgeon to repair a hernia. Spanglish is coming next. After that I need some input.

Veto "Napoleon Dynamite."

It has some humorous moments, but is just too bizarre. Unless you watch it with a roomful of people, who will laugh over various things, it will leave you thinking "Why am I watching this?"

My opinion, of course.

I've considered Netflix because they have things you just can't find in video rental stores. Specialty things. If you like Opera, do a browse to see what they have. NONE of that is in regular video stores.

And keep us informed. I like to know what others find interesting to watch.

I generally prefer to see my gratuitous sex and violence in print, but my husband likes watching movies and DVDs and sometimes tells me about them.

He brought home the recent Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino that I really enjoyed, but then, I'm a Shakespeare nut, too. Rob liked Spanglish and Sideways, but watched Kinsey the other night and found it very moving. He found Hotel Rwanda an extremely worthwhile movie, but deeply disturbing. Team America was one of the funniest movies he'd seen in a long time, but incredibly gross. Apart from MoV, I haven't watched any of them.

Saxy, I saw Dynamite at my sisters house and had it been im my house I'd have turned it off after the first five minutes (in *my* house it *my* remote and don't you forget it). It was so dumb... it was so goofy... but ROLFLMAO! I loved it! It makes me suspect that people who write and direct this stuff must have been chewing pink sugar cubes with me in the back of a van circa 60 something.

My neighbor's daughter who teaches grammer school says all the staff has seen the movie six times just so the learn the right way to say, "idiot"!

I agree Shap - great movie. Whenever Sahara comes out on DVD - it's a great action movie. Very "Indiana Jones" for a new age!

You beat me to it. Second Hand Lions is a great movie.

Also check out the Fritz Lang movie Metropolis. Try to get the more recent tinted one with 'modern' music.

Yes, I recommend that movie to anyone wanting a good film to watch. Great family entertainment, as well.

Saxy, I have Sahara on Video. Bogart is great. Did I pull this shenanigan once...? It's still a great movie.

I'd suggest "A Little Bit of Soul" if they've got it. It's a satire/comedy with a bit of a Faust twist and a very bizarre plot. If you get it though, be sure and watch it to the end. I hafta admit the beginning is a little slow and it's tempting to turn it off, but the ending totally makes up for it.
Also, if you like off-beat try "Mystery Men". It's a great spoof on Super Hero movies.
Someone suggested a Fritz Lang film. I have to agree that Fritz Lang movies are a lot of fun. I particularly like "M" with Peter Lorre.

Has anyone seen Finding Neverland? My girls put that one in the queue on Netflix, but they are also lining up some sappy romance movies. Don't know what's worse - sappy gratuitous romance or a musical (oops, wrong thread )

We are also working our way through some PBS series. The Midsomer Murders are good and so is Sharpe and Cadfael.

If you like quirky, my husband really enjoys The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai.

A haunting (not scaring haunting but more "in the back of your mind, stick with you a long time" haunting) movie that my wife & I liked was "The Notebook". It's a really well done story starring James Garner & Gena Rowlands.
