We have ~.75 of a classical music radio station here in Sandy Eggo:
The local PBS station - ~.15
A station out of L.A. - .~40
A station in Mexico - ~.20

That's why B.com is such a breath of civilization in this particular land of the Philistines.

We also have 934 (Classical Masterpieces), 935 (Opera), 936 (Light Classical), and 947 (KUSC) if you have the cable radio. The local PBS station is unsat. I don't get the LA station at all. The Mexico station is sometimes OK, sometimes very badly bestaticked.

You have to buy extended digital cable, in addition to basic cable, to get the radio stations.

We used to have Classical radio on our satellite package, but lost it when we switched to Dish Network from DirectTV. Dish Network offers Sirius Satellite but it does not come as part of the basic package.

Fortunately, I have a large collection of classical CD's. If I'm really in need of some serious (not Sirius!) classical music, I can plug in a turntable and listen to something from my vinyl collection.

Although I can see why some might be offended at their favorite music being used as an irritant to those antisocial types, I have considered putting the Revenge Aria on a loop for obnoxious neighbors. Apologies to bones, I know he likes it.

But, of course, the bottom line is whatever works, as long as it doesn't violate the Constitution.

We have a classical station in DC that runs 24/7, and it's generally OK, but living in the hole I do, my reception is generally limited to what I can get from XM, which is part of my DirecTV subscription.

OT and I politely differ on the cable subject. I greatly enjoy my cable channels; some radio and some are TV. What, no History channel? No R. Lee? No Emeril? No HGTV? No Bravo? :yikes:

I've managed to survive with only Anitques Roadshow to feed the addiction, although I admit I do miss the Hitler.........uh, I mean History channel.

I think I've even managed to cure my Law and Order addiction in the process.

Selma, its not that we dont like what is on cable... its that we like it tooooooo much. Between that and a tight budget, it seemed better to go on the cableholics program.

You all must watch a lot more TV than I do. It's more like "150 channels and nothings on" to me. I rarely watch enough TV to justify paying the bill. However, the sitter watches it while she sits with my stepson, and I do enjoy a movie once in a while. My son enjoys the Cartoon Network.

I like the History Channel, but I probably haven't watched it in months. Of the few programs I do watch, most are available on network TV. If I have the time and interest to sit and watch very much TV, I'll usually plug in a DVD and watch a movie of my choosing...

All in all, I'd rather read a good book, preferable about sailing.

So, this started out being a thread about classical music as a weapon, and in less than twelve hours has degenerated into cable/satellite TV, and finally a bit of politics. Does that about sum it up?

TV is important. It's not possible for me to knit, or sew, while reading so I need (cable) TV or (cable) radio.

The cable radio very often is set to a classical music program.

Although I like the idea, what will stop the undesireable people from simply bringing Boom Boxes and turning them up louder than the piped in Classical Music? Or using their Ipod ear plugs (which I see wherever I go now)?
