Schmeelkie ... drinking might help get production kick-started ;) ;) ... you dont actually have to get sober til you test positive.

(I should talk. I just got drunk for the first time since Altoid announced her imminent presence).

Actually, re the bad wines, at the same time b.com was advertizing Aussie wines, they were advertizing a local winery too (Awful ad) and it was those connecticut aussie wines I was referring to.

I subscribe to the "drink lightly" rather than the teetotal sobriety theory of pregnancy management. The occasional short glass of wine doesn't seem to have damaged my kids, aside from making them smartmouth wiseacre knowitalls.

Oh, wait, that's probably heredity. :D

Hell with it - we are in baby production now - I'm at about 9 weeks. We're not telling anyone yet - but you won't tell my husband, will you? and y'all aren't going to tell my boss yet either!

Baby's due in late Nov. I've been dying to tell someone - officially we're telling people this weekend...or is it next weekend - forgot what hubby and I decided.

Anyway, still think I'll stay off the booze. And gotta cut back on the caffine a bit too... :(

Schmee - Congratulations!! Best wishes for a happy weekend of announcements!

You are wise to avoid alcohol, particularly at the early stages of pregnacy when the baby is developing rapidly. Drinking small amounts of alcohol (small glass of wine with dinner) is less of an issue in late term...(8th, 9th month). At that point everything is formed and the baby is simply growing. However, if you can give up the alcohol altogether, so much the better:

Schmeelkie - my congrats too, and wishing you that everything goes well and normally.
BTW, I suppose you've heard that smoking is especially not advised during pregnancy, so I hope you're no way into that.
Excuse my impertinent solicitousness. :)

Congats, Schmeelk, and take good care of that which needs good care taken.

In the mean time, fiddle with the hash key. :D

Beyond Therapy

Postby itsawonder » Tue Apr 25, 2006 7:18 am

This is probably not exact but here's what I've got:
Hello and welcome to the mental health hotline.
If you are obsessive compulsive, press 1 repeatedly.
If you are co-dependent, ask someone to press 2 for you.
If you have multiple personalities, press 3456.
If you are paranoid, we know what you are and what you want. Stay on the line and we'll trace your call.
If you are delusional, press 7 and your call will be transferred to the mothership.
If you are dyslexic, press 69696969.
If you have a nervous disorder, please fidget with the hash key until someone answers.
If you have a short-term memory loss, please hang up and try your call again later.
If you have low self-esteem, hang up. All our operators are too busy to talk to you.

Thanks for the congrats all - yes I don't smoke - never have. Lost a grandpa when I was 5 to emphysema - kinda puts a damper on the desire to smoke. Really didn't have any problems abstaining from alcohol during the last pregnancy. Weddings can be an issue, but don't have any on tap in the near future. Between my husband and I we only have two unmarried cousins, and not too many unmarried friends left. Also, since I nursed Pumpkin so long, one beer makes me tipsy and I rarely have more than a 1/2 - 3/4's glass of wine at a time.

Very rarely do I have more than 2 caffinated beverages in a day - and never coffee (coke (that's Coca cola...!), tea and chai are my favs). So I figure I'm pretty well below the high end of recommendations. Kinda hooked on Snapple's Lime green tea lately. Last pregnancy I limited myself to one can of coke a day, but I wasn't working then, nor did I have a 2 year old who rarely sleeps through the night. (Think we need a yawning smilie...)

Think I've got the (pregnancy-related) short term memory loss - gotta try my call again later.....

Weddings arent so bad if you are willing to carry a glass of champagne around. Everytime someone proposes a toast, you raise your glass, wet your lips, and look happy. As long as the glass is full, no one will try to top it up too energetically.

The downside is that SOMEONE will accuse you of drinking and get all self-righteous. There seem to be fewer of those than the ones who get all fussed if you wont "just have one glass".

You're right, Piq.
But the real bummer was years ago when people tried to tempt you to take "one for the road".

David,

RE: One for the road.

Yeah, I always hated that. Like one drink was going to get me all the way home! :D
