As for the Evening Host, I think this is only a must for the people in the USA and south Amarica region. If its Evening in the USA, then it's bedtime for me here in Europe, and I think that Asia is still at sleep when i go to bed.

But as I view the Bulletin Board the question comes to mind: 'Are there more listners from the USA then from the rest of the World?'. This is possible ofcourse.

But what I want to say to you guys at B.com is to think about your choice, I find it a great idea, but I don't know what your budget is. Maybe you can invest your money to upgrade your broadcasting quality from 64 kbps to 96 kbps.
This is just an example. But I support B.com in whatever your choice may be in the future.

The current host schedule caters mainly to the Eastern time zone in the U.S. I think that's somewhere between a carryover from the beginning and convenience, unless there are demographics to support having live hosts in those time slots. I, too will continue to listen to b.com and support their sponsors regardless of what they do, as long as they don't change their format and don't cop an attitude.

I think that the eastcoast centric nature is somewhat driven by the fact that much of the money comes in from Way Too Much Information (WTMI 1490(correction: 1290 AM)) advertizing sold for the AM radio station.

I'm HOPING that the Spam laws create a marketplace for (Limited) email advertizing. It should cost an advertiser as much to email me as snail mail me and I should be able to control how much ad email I get. I'm not fussy am I? BUT, if companies like b.com earn the right to send email as they do audio or print ads, it could be a return to a sane online advertising market and there might be fewer $20 a year nickle and dime 'premium' services.

Ah well, I can dream.

Actually, Benito, WTMI is AM 1290, which I am eternally grateful for because it is how I discovered beethoven.com in the first place - picking up that rare sound of classical music on the AM band while driving to NYC a year ago. (This year's trip, picked up the lovely sound of John Nowacki's voice again!) beethoven.com / WTMI rocks!!

Had the great pleasure of doing Carmina Burana last year. On the topic of the thread, I've never really listened much after HRH puts the flag up, but I'll have to tune in to see what all the fuss is about!

It really has more to do with us left-coast folks than anything else. When H.R.H. signs off, it's still 3pm for us, but I understand it's just plain business to cater mainly to the source of revenue.

I bet if you took up a collection on the left coast and could come up with, oh...say...$50K a year, they'd get a DJ to cover later shifts (I'm assuming a $30K salary and some benefits)

The answer to your question is, yes, although we have listeners in virtually every continent besides Antarctica (we even had someone listen to us way high up on Mount Everest once!), the vast majority come from the US and Canada (about 85% and 7%, respectively). As high-bandwidth Internet connectivity spreads, we expect our international listeners to grow, but for now that's the situation.

SSHHH! There are talks of something like this happening. I can't say more right now, but just suffice it to say we're always looking for ways to make Beethoven Radio better and higher speeds are one of them.
