Forgive me for jumping in here, Dai, when your comment was addressed to Ethan, but I'm sure he would agree with me that there is nothing anti-Christian about objecting to the commercialism and hype of Christmas as it is "celebrated" in our secular society. On the contrary, I agree with you wholeheartedly, and I'm certain that Ethan does as well.

From a biblical standpoint, today's Christmas bears little, if any, resemblance to the Christian celebration which it portends to be - the celebration of the birth of our Savior.

Fortunately, most of the music of Christmas, especially the classics, was actually written in recognition of that event.

and there are very few new carols worth hearing. "Mary's Boy Child" is the only one that comes to mind, and even then the only bit I really like is the chorus

Mary's Boy Child is indeed good, but I am rather fond of Jesus Christ the Apple Tree. Do you know this one?

Hi Mary,

Yes to both. We start rehearsals on the 22nd, but my church choir has Christmas Eve services, and I'm in three other groups that are putting on Advent/Christmas concerts as well, so I've got a full plate this season.

I'm familiar with Jesus Christ the Apple Tree. One of the groups I'm in is doing it this year, and I've done it before in my church choir. Very nice piece.

Seriously though, no, I haven't heard it that I know of. It might have floated past in the Christmas medley.

Ethan takes his Christianity very seriously and I didn't want him to think I was disparaging it. I'm sure he dislikes the commercialism too, but I wanted to be sure he knew what I was talking about. Writing (rather than talking)plus time zones plus cultural and language usage differences mean that intent isn't always plain.

This is my first Christmas with Beethoven Radio so I don't know what to expect as far as Xmas bombardment...hope it's not brutal. I don't think so, their programming is very good.

Christmas music! Glad you asked...

We have a rule, no Xmas music until after Turkey Day. But once that day has come and gone we will start to play the Xmas requests. And for those who love the holiday we always air a three hour program featuring Handel's Messiah and we do 24 hours of holiday music from 6PM EST Xmas eve to 6PM EST Xmas day. Happy Ho Ho!

Every creature was hurting-- even the mouse.

The toys were all broken, their batteries dead;
Santa passed out, with some ice on his head.

Wrapping and ribbons just covered the floor, while
Upstairs the family continued to snore.

To the tip or your limit, every store, every mall,

He whooped and he whistled as he finished his work.
He filled up the box, and then turned with a jerk.

He sprang to his truck and he drove down the road,
Driving much faster with just half a load.

Then I heard him exclaim with great holiday cheer,
"ENJOY WHAT YOU GOT ... YOU'LL BE PAYING ALL YEAR!"
