Religion on Sunday am

Hi,

Is anyone else bothered by the Christian programming on Beethoven Radio on Sunday mornings? It is on until at least 8:30 am. I thought this was classical music 24 hrs a day!

Or am I the only maniac up so early on a Sunday?

Not me. I'm warm and snug in my bed at that time.

But even if I weren't I wouldn't have a problem with it. I probably wouldn't listen to it, but I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I don't listen on Sunday morning either. Believe it or not, I was in church this Sunday...and no lightning struck. (Played for the Unitarians).

It doesn't bother me that B.com does a religious program - it's their prerogative. If I did listen on Sunday morning, I'd listen to something else I suppose.

I guess you've made your point just by posting this thread. 24 hours - except the sermon on Sunday.

I don't listen on the weekends at home, but it wouldn't bother me terribly if I did. I don't mind Christian music at all.

Have you tried asking the program directors about it?

You folks think this is an issue? WKAT, Miami's only classical music station is in the process of being transfered to Salem Communications. They will program, "all the lord all the time".

When I lived in Miami, WTMI, a great Classical station that went the way of the dodo, used to broadcast "Jewish Synagogue" stuff on the weekends. Not being Jewish, nor understanding, I simply switched the station.

Sorry to my Jewish friends if I didn't phrase that correctly, but I think everyone gets my drift.

Tree, we are WTMI. Our owner sold WTMI in Miami and moved it to Hartford. We boradcast on the 1290AM signal here in Hartford and to the world at Beethoven.com.

They broadcast Friday evening services from a local synagogue.

Nicole Marie is correct. Cox bought WTMI(93.1), Miami, in late 2000 or early 2001 and changed them to dance music, "Party 93" at high noon, on New Years Eve Sunday, 2001. Three days later, on the second day of the second year of the second century of radio, I was figuratively grooving to the tunes of XM Classics and XM Pops.

I was a temporary engineer at their old Hotel Mutiny studios in Coconut Grove, during the mid 1980's. Say hello to WT for me

Will do ai4i! Woody is often in Boston or Miami this time of year but he pops into Hartford from time to time.

The confusion with WTMI is that Cox bought the signal not the call letters (WTMI). They bought the 93.1 signal and in the sale they got to hang onto the WMTI call letters with the agreement that if they ever changed format from classical music that we (Marlin Broadcasting) would get back WTMI. (We knew Cox would change format, it's their style.) A month or two later 93.1 went dance and we got back WTMI. We then moved it to our Hartford signal 1290 AM. But by then Beethoven.com was already up and running in Hartford so we just blended 1290 AM and Beethoven.com together. And the rest they say is history!

They have every right to broadcast whatever program they feel is most beneficial to their bottom line.

I haven't tried to tune in on Sunday mornings for quite a while (having dial-up at home, STILL), so I wasn't aware of it. If I had tried and got a sermon, I would most likely have turned it off, but really, it's NOT our station, it's THEIR station, so if they can make a buck or two while I do something else, more power to 'em.

They play some pieces I don't like, and there's even a couple that will make me stop listening. That's not me telling them not to play them, it's me exercising my right to listen to what I want to and not listen to what I don't. They play a lot of music I like, and even some of what they play is directly as a result of my asking them to play it (and they even say so, so I'm pretty sure it's true).

Without knowing ALL the details, I did know that WTMI became B.com, because I had been tuning in the stream even before.

I miss the commercials about "Fancy's" restaurant.

I tried 1290AM on my AM radio and cannot get it here on Long Island.

We are just across the sound.
Is there any possibility that the signal will be boosted????

A Cantor voice's is wonderful. I have listened to many and I don't just mean Eddie CANTOR

While travelling in a cab to a Christmas Party (in Toronto) I listened to a tape the taxi driver was playing. It was the Koran being sung in Arabic. Beautiful singing.

It seems to me all religious music has its beauty. Perhaps that is why Beethoven.com plays it.

Hi Howard, the AM signal reaches only here in Hartford and Farmington Valley. We'd love to boost the signal but the FCC prevents us from doing that. We are looking to purchase a stronger AM signal and are shopping around. But the cheapest one in this area is 2 million! The search continues, we hope to have one in the next year or two.

Hi Marye- There is organ music in the broadcast on Sunday's, it is a nice feature. And the show also presents the view of the St Germaine Foundation. They pay for the half hour and the show meets all FCC regs so we allow the broadcast.
