CD or Sat Radio

My car’s 6-CD player died a long time ago. I've now got the budget to replace it or get satellite radio, but not both. I love classical, heavy metal, some hair bands, classic rock (pre ’74) and the blues. Which satellite system, XM or Sirius would better suit my listening preferences and is it really better than having my own CD player. And no, I don’t do MP3s. The compression and digital artifacts drive me out of my skull. I also think they are expensive if you collect them the legit way.

BigJon,

Whenever my son gets a new CD, he immediately rips it to MP3's. Then he burns MP3 CD's for his player. He can fit around 10 CDs on a single CD with only MP3 files on it. That would convert your 6 CD changer into a 60 CD changer. As for compression problems, I'm not sure I could hear the difference in the car with the road noise, etc.

I've only heard XM and enjoy it, but be sure to get a portable radio that you can remove from your in-dash cradle and put in your cradle attached to your stereo. It's a little pricey (for me) just to have in the car.

I know only what marketing departments have made into commercials. Didn't think you needed that!

I've had my satellite system in vehicles for 3½ years and love it because of all the wonderful genres of music that I would have known nothing about if I were just hunting music down on my own. Forget the home kit: XM & Sirius both feature unlimited online streaming of all their music channels at no additional cost to paying subscribers. The general concensus I've both read on line and heard on line is that XM plays a wider variety and Sirius is more hits driven. Signal reliability is similar although each have their pros and cons (different types of dropouts) but both are 99.44% solid with normal driving. I will not promote one system over the other, but visit www.xmradio.com & www.siriusradio.com as well as these unaffiliated discussion boards, www.xmfan.com www.xm411.com and www.siriusbackstage.com I can go on for hours about sat rad. My signature message says it all. If I can help you with any spicific information, please PM me.

Yes, another option would be to find yourself a high speed wireless internet connection with which you can drive around (not short-range Wifi) and keep it tuned right here.
There are many streams out there with some great special programs, but for casual streaming, Beethoven is the best.
Nice web page, but the ..XD should be outside the html commands.
