FYI-

The server is in the process of being fixed. We need to do a bit of rebuilding on it. By late tomorrow we chould be back up and running. Sorry for this but servers do crash once in awhile.

Is b.com e-mail down again? I'm getting the "network error" message.

Yup, it crashed and our team is on it as we speak. We are still trying to locate the source of the crash. It will be up by the end of today.

I have not been able to access my e-mail account at work for about a month now. I'm not sure what IT has done here since the settings are all on automatic detection. I can access other e-mail accounts without a problem but with Beethoven I get the Page-Cannot-Be-Displayed Error Page with the "Detect Network Settings" link. Maybe I should ask Santa for a "Networking for Dummies" ;)

Hi Serenity-

Sounds like you are behind a firewall. When you get that message First try visiting: http://mail.beethoven.com:8383 directly.

The numbers 8383 at the end of the link means that our website uses a non-standard Internet port (called a TCP port) to prevent novice hackers and spammers with automated software programs from abusing our email system. Unfortunately if you have a hardware or software firewall installed that does not keep track of your outgoing traffic (called stateful packet checking) and blocks outgoing access to anything but the standard web port (80) it will block your access to our email website.

If you have a software firewall, try adding our address (http://mail.beethoven.com:8383) as a trusted site. You may be able to add it as a trusted site to some hardware firewalls if you have the ability to access the settings for the firewall.

If you have no control over your firewall then you can still use your email account using a third-party email program such as Outlook Express.

Thanks Nicole. I've tried all three options and none work. Outlook times out when it tries to connect and I can't change the server timeout for an HTTP account.

If at first you don't succeed....try, try again! <I'm psyching myself up for the next round>

It'll only give you access to your main mailbox, but try logging in through mail2web.

My firewall at work won't let me get through the named port, either, but this way I can get to most of my mail.

Barfle, it worked like a charm! I've never heard of that site, so I think I'll visit there and play for a while. Thanks.

Actually, Kevin Shively told me about it, and I've been using it since my PC at home died (and I won't be getting a new one until January).

Thanks to you, Kevin, and Merry Christmas!

Is b.com e-mail experiencing trouble? I can't get it to respond to any button commands(i.e., reply, delete, send). I currently have junk in my inbox which includes viruses(!) that I can't delete. Thanks in advance for your help. :)
