Wagner & Art

After a trip to Richard Wagners' home in Bayreuth, Germany, I became very interested in his approach not only to opera but the sketches, art, and illustrations that preceded the opera. I was looking for books that reference some of this art. (examples of work, artistic influences, historical influences, people that worked with him.) The books would need to be written in English, unless they are loaded with pictures. Unfortunately, my german reading abilities are below-average.

Thanks for the help, Iliam. Amazon.com has a few titles in reference to Wagners' art, politics, and music. I thought about starting with them.

I have a book at home with interesting illustrations sketched from the Ring Cycle. They were completed during during Wagners' life. Interesting, if you are an artlover anyway.

According to the editorial review of Rackham's book at Amazon, this book is Rackham's "masterpiece, regarded by some as the greatest representation of Wagner's drama ever produced".

Rackham certainly has his own style that was appropriate to Wagners' music. Good stuff!
