I am happy today. I spent the entire weekend on this and System Restore has finally been "restored" onto my operating system.

I read on some computer bulletin board that when you install the operating system onto itself, it is OK. So, I clicked on the file that sets up the operating system (Windows ME). It re-installed with Internet Explorer version 5.5; darn, I wanted IE 6 SP1. I spent most of the weekend trying to download IE 6 SP1 (still unsuccessful) but I have System Restore and Windows Media Player installed and I am listening to Beethoven.com on my PC speaker! YAAY!

Internet Explorer 6 SP1 never downloaded correctly; it never finished the download. At one point, I couldn't click on a desktop folder without receiving an error message.

OT, I haven't used FF in....ummmmm....3 months(?). I have had such a bad time trying to have my system bug-free and functioning I've ignored FF.

I just moved to a new home, so I have a new service provider (with a new software security system...that I don't quite understand). I spent about 2 months not being able to listen to B.com at home (until today....YAY!)....and I haven't been able to upgrade to IE6 SP1 so far.

My guess with your IE6 problems is the operating system. I was told that IE6 does not work properly on windows systems prior to XP. I did install it once on an old W98 computer at work and it did work ok. Seemed rather slow, however.

Have you downloaded the lastest windows updates for your system? Another suggestion would be getting a CD to install IE6, if you don't have one.

Welcome to the board Avivaldi72! I can't believe no one has welcomed you yet.

I found a computer bulletin board post that indicated I needed to upgrade to IE 5.5 SP2 for Windows ME before downloading IE6 SP1. It worked; don't know the specifics but it worked.

I am now back to where I was about 6 months ago; everything working. Downloading all those recommended spyware programs just seems to have mucked up my PC and they kept tripping over each other. Now that I have a new ISP, I use their security software and although the help files are very short on explanations, I haven't had to deal with anything major.

Ahh what a coincidence. I downloaded that browser today. I don't find it to be very good..you don't get the same views on that as you do on Internet Explorer. A lot of things look messed up for me..=( I just decided to stick with ie. But I dunno..

Hi Tara, welcome.

I've always used IE without many problems, occasionally it may get corrupted but then I use the, IE fix tool that I keep in 'My Documents' folder. I'm looking forward to the new, IE7 that's coming shortly.

Try Netscape or Opera. Both are better browsers than IE and very user friendly. FireFox can be molded to your desires by downloading add-ins. But it is up to you to learn what the add-ins do and to maintain them as version change. That's OK if you are a techie, but it's not so good if you just want it to work when you click the icon.

HI Tara, welcome to the Pit!

FireFox: I'm still using it, and quite happy with it. The only consistent negative I have about it is the length of time on initial startup, which seems to have been exacerbated since I performed the performance modifications suggested earlier in this thread. Once it's up, those mods really make a difference, though.

I downloaded and installed the new version 1.5.0.3
I don't use alot of the features so I can't comment (well I can but intelligently?.....NO! ) but I've lost my scrollbars above and to the sides of the screen...Anyone else have that happen or is it just a resolution issue?
I now have to use the keyboard buttons to scroll....

I downloaded it a few days ago, and have no problems. The scroll bars are right where they're supposed to be on mine, so it must be a resolution issue for you. However, I change my resolution routinely, and it doesn't affect my scroll bars ever.

Maybe you're not holding your mouth right.....

I now have scroll bars again and did nothing other than cycle through a couple of themes I'd downloaded....don't know if my mouth changed position or not....

GC, I tried to PM you with IE Explorer just now (after Chris was working on the board this weekend). Still nothing......so it's not Firefox. I get the "Cannot post so soon after your last post" message.
