Now Playing update in WMP window

Howdy,

Anyone know what little trick I need to do to get the Now Playing display in the Windows Media Player window to automatically refresh?

Not that important, but would be nice to have.

Currently using WMP 9.00.00.3075 here at work; it refreshes the "now playing" for quite a while all by itself. Sometimes it refreshes all day, sometimes it glitches. When it glitches it claims to be unable to connect (but that's not true because it's still playing my music!) and I click the "media library" button, then back to the "now playing" button, click the go bar under the ad, and I'm back to a self-refreshing "now playing" display.

If you can run WMP 10, it runs even better. MS does not charge for the upgrade, despite OT's allegations of villainy.

I think Tim already got Shutters Media Staller 10, as have I, although I rarely use it.

Isn't a photo of TinyFlaccid corporate HQ next to "glitch" in the dictionary?

I only have 9. May go for 10 soon. Surprisingly, Tiny Flaccid hasn't notified me of the availability of an upgrade. Probably because it's free ??

Not so very long ago, when I was just beginning to write long complex reports for work, I had to learn a "work around" to get "page x of Y" to count "Y". At the time, the editors of the magazine that published the workaround said "If this function is not made a simple easy to use part of the next release of Word, we personally will fly to Seattle and overturn Bill Gate's trashcans."

I think because Windows is so dominant, problems with it are all the more annoying. Its not like I have the choice to use WordPerfect, WordStar or anything else at work.

Piq: I do that all the time. Place a component on the last page (I usually name it Last) and make an autonumber from the string "Pagecount" in it. Tag your pagecount autonumber (I usually use the chapter, section, or workpackage designator) and reference the tag on the first page at position Y in "page x of Y". Set the tag reference to display the page position of the Pagecount autonumber and there you are.

Hey, I said Quicksilver was better than Word. I never said it was friendly.

why do they call fixes to problems with software "Bug fixes"
What the heck is a bug?
Definition of a bug - an annoying creature that wont go away until you SPLAT........

This is the result of poor planning and testing.
I'm venting as I have 2 emergency "Bug fixes" going on due to poor planning on other people in this organization.
I have 5 people working from midnight - 4AM tonight
I almost had to be here for the deployment. thnk goodness NO.

Word is so simple that engineers try to use it to do their own documentation <shudder> <turning green>. The "workaround" that users complain about with Word may actually be shorter than SOP for another program!

Word is great for memos, grocery lists, and so forth. You might want to consider a technical program for technical documents. I still like Interleaf/Quicksilver best, probably because I'm used to it. It does things Word never dreamed of, but it's really not user-friendly.

If you must know, in the old days, when computers filled big rooms and were made up of lots and lots of hot, sensitive, vacuum tubes, etc., from time to time an insect would get into the workings and land on places that would cause electrical shorts and other problems. The computer would literally have a "bug." The term stuck for computer related problem. Nowadays a bug would have a hard time causing a problem. That is a job best left to programmers (like me ).

I'm not sure if you really believe the story or not, but it's true. The original bug still exists! It is in a notebook kept by Grace Hopper, the Navy engineer (later commodore, and I think promoted to admiral when the rank of commodore was abolished) who invented the COBOL language.
