Hi there folks!
I was cleaning off my hard drive in an effort to get my computer to talk to the internet again and I came across the file setdebug with a teddy bear icon. I googled it and got conflicting reports about whether or not it is a virus. Since my anti-virus is several years out of date that doesn't help me either. Just wondering if any of you guys knew if it was a virus or not.

Not this old chestnut again... SETDEBUG.EXE is a valid Windows Java application. Some spyware/malware apps will delete it even though it is harmless and even useful. The following link may help SETDEBUG.EXE

The Teddy Bear Icon was supposedly some Programmers joke because the file provided some form of security, like a Teddy bear. As GC pointed out, it is a valid file.

There is an e-mail that re-surfaces from time to time urging you to delete it. It's been reported on snopes.com.

Whatever you do, don't touch the teddy bear!!! It will explode on contact, making a mess of your computer monitor in the process.

You really need to be cautious about something that cute......

Just kidding.................

Several years ago I fell for the chain e-mail regarding it. I found it extremely frustrating that, after deleting it, the icon would reappear every time I rebooted. The file regenerates, so it doesn;t really matter what you do to it.

And yes, it belongs in Windows.
