OT!!! Help!!

Postby lliam » Sun Aug 28, 2005 6:35 am

Hi OT, when I view your forums I have to scroll across the page to read everthing, it's almost half as wide again as a normal page. It's only on your forums, and it's always been so, anywhere else I go on the BB's is ok. Is there some sort of setting you or I can do to resolve this little niggley thing?
Does anyone else have the same problem as me?

Lliam - this has happened on other forums as well. It seems to me that when a high volume/resolution picture is posted, the text window expands to accomodate it beyond your screen width. The best I have been able to do is view the window with the FULL-SCREEN option, and then I can read most lines in full with a minimum of extra right- or left-scrolling to get all the way to the beginning or end of partially hidden lines.
I too would be glad of an easier way around this.

Hi DavidS, yes I've tried that but, it doesn't make a lot of difference.

Thanks anyway I appreciate your input.

It's to do with photo file size. I had to cut mine in half before posting. If I left them the size they came out of the camera, they'd never fit. There's nothing we can do about it, lliam. It's over to O.T. to resize his photos. It's a chore & a bore, so I doubt if he'll want to do it. I started on my albums & gave up very quickly.

Hi Lliam,

When I post photos, I shrink them to 800X600 pixels, which is still fairly large. I have a 17" monitor and I have my screen resolution set at 1028X1284 pixels(or something like that). The photos fit easily on my screen, and I haven't been taking smaller screens or bigger resolutions into account when I size them. I have a feeling that's where your problem lies.

BTW, I shrink them to 800X600 from 2048X1638. Be glad I don't try to post them that size!

DB's right; it's a chore and a bore, but I do it, too. Posting photos is very tedious and time consuming, but I enjoy sharing the photos so I don't mind the effort.

Thanks OT&DB, that explains everything.
I have a 17" monitor and I have my screen resolution set at 800X600 pixels, I suppose I could set it at 1028X1284 pixels just to view your pics.

FYI to all:

The threshold for the max WIDTH a pic can be before it starts resizing the BB is ~450 pixels. You can actually push that limit to about 500 pixels without having to scroll, but after that you must scroll to see a complete pic.

Hal has said it. It's not so much the file size as posted on the photo store site; it's the file size as handled by the BBB.

My photos are fine on my 17" screen, straight from the camera, but heaven help me if I try to send them anywhere without a severe reduction in size. As I said above, 50% for a start. Some need more than that. I've got a fairly decent internet connection, too.

My camera software and photoshop software automatically resize the image to fit the screen, but if I select 100%,......

Ed Zachary.

I find that if I am only viewing a picture in IE6 that it will resize it to fit the window, but if it is a picture in a web page, it will appear at 100% size. I rarely post pictures on the Internet beyond 640x480 pixels, because they wreak havoc with the browser window.
