unusual pop-up ad

Postby Shapley » Thu Sep 29, 2005 8:30 am

Chris,

Normally, when I log into Beethoven.com, I get a pop-up ad from fastclick (the SpongeBob screensaver, or "You are a winner" type things). They are annoying but harmless (I hope). Today, however, in its place was a small pop-up, with a single, large exclamation point, and a "close" button (which I did not use).

Is this normal, or am I being invaded by the adware gnomes?

This is normal. They do try to trick you with ads to get you to click on them and purchase their product. Most of the ads we feature are harmless but you should always use the X in the furthest upper right corner of any pop-ups.

Chris,

Thanks. It didn't look like an ad, in that it didn't advertise anything. I suspected that clicking on the "close" button would send me to an undesirable location.

Could you block that effing ad for icons that says "hello". I listen at work and that ad is 4 times louder than the station. It sounds unprofessional coming out of my cube.

My pop-up blocker must be working against that one, since I've not seen it. fastclick is the only one that consistently pops-up when I log onto Beethoven.com. It's annoying, but harmless.
