Did anyone catch the Toyota 300 from Homstead, Florida? I cant imagine driving 210 mph 6 inches from another car truley amazing. I tried to notice but it seemed as if they didnt even have to left of the accelerator going through the corners.

I remember hearing about a track, I think its Texas Motor Speedway where the drivers start to black out due to the g's. Yesterday they were hitting 4.5 almost 5 g's.

Scott,
I saw some of it while channel surfing.
Pretty amazing driving that fast and being only 6 inches apart. I guess they get used to it.

Howard

They must get used to it, but I cant imagine what it must feel like. I love all the camera angles they are using to. It is a lot different then it used to be. They try to put you in the car and in the pit crew. Much more entertaining, now if ESPN would carry some road courses as well that would be even better.

My favorite is when they have the camera right in with the driver.

While there's nothing like driving in a race, I can say from experience that it's a lousy place to watch a race from. Face it, you're busier than the proverbial one-armed paper hanger with lice.

You have to know what the cars around you are doing, and you have to know where you are on the track, but once you've started paying attention to those, little things like your overall position in the race, lap counts, and any other battles on the track are beyond your interest.

You are also paying very close attention to what the car is doing - you're depending on all the mechanical elements to keep working properly, and if they stop, it's a real good idea to have plan B. I remember once I had a rear wheel loosen up, and believe me, that's a very disturbing feeling on a race track. Shoulda stopped one lap before I did.

And I doubt if the drivers ever "get used" to trying to beat a similar car into a turn. Your heart and a couple of other glands seem stuck in your throat the whole time. It's a kick, and when you're pushing your skills and the limits of the car, you know the defecation can hit the ventilation at any time.

When I was a kid I told my dad I wanted to be a race car driver when I grew up. (loved watching the Indy 500)
His response was to become a NYC Taxi Driver.

Ughh....

I've had a few interesting taxi rides in NYC myself- one with A "Rasta driver" from Jamaica. He was ferociously gnawing on a piece of raw sugar cane as he gunned his cab from Brookly nnto Manhatten, careening from lane to lane, gunning for pedestrians- I was 8 months pregnant at the time, no seat belts no air bags.... I would have been safer on the Indy 500 track!

Two nephews, ex-BIL, several of my generation in our younger and stupider days, friends, unsavory associates. Geez, the list is getting entirely too long.
