Who Am I?

Postby shostakovich » Wed May 03, 2006 6:26 pm

Escales was the best known work of its creator, but I am the only known of mine. I am vastly underrated for this reason. There is a very famous work that I resemble. This famous work and I are both based on much earlier tunes.

My creator was American, and so was the creator of the tune I am based on. The simple tune, however, was by a man not generally thought of as a composer. His name is quite well known for a non-musical reason.

This is not much to go on, but when you discover me, you will be pleased.

[tongue-in-cheek] I am a classic movie accompaniment. My creator is one of the two classic condiments for me. [/tongue-in-cheek]

This is a tough cookie, so--------------

I and the famous work I resemble both begin with the letter "F".

Lets see, starts with an "F"...

In the interest of narrowing the field, may we safely assume that neither of the pieces is "4:33" (Four thirty-three), by John Cage? :P

when you say "the only known work" do you mean it is the only work he is known to have written? or do you mean it is the only work the anyone plays?

Jeff

You are Correct. Both titles start with "Fa"

Big, the composer of Who Am I surely wrote other works, but I've never heard of one. The one work is based on a tune by a composer known in another field, neigh VERY well known.

One of the "Fa" works is by an Enlishman on an English tune. The other is by an American on an American tune (possibly of English origin).

Jeff,
Have you been to Mitchell, S.D?
I used to go to a software vendor there.....

You can't say you've been to Mitchell unless you've been to
the Corn Palace.

Regards,
TM :P

Hi TM,

I have been to Mitchell. I've seen the outside of the Worlds Only Corn Palace, but never been inside (basically, it is an arena). Usually, I'm driving through, or past Mitchell on my way to the Black Hills, or on a pheasant hunting trip, etc. There is also a Cabela's there.

I haven't been around for awhile...delighted to see another quiz.

Shos, I've been trying to pm you for a couple of days but the system won't let me. I emailed you a guesss, but I'm not sure how often you check it...and I'm not sure I used the correct email address. So, I'll post a vague guess question here:

Does a horse (very remotely) have something to do with this composition?

re the Corn Palace - resistance goes against the grain. I dont have the grit to withstand the temptation. Its always been a fantasy of mine to watch them build one.

Shucks, people, Shos is hardly getting a niblet on this puzzle. Hominy of us have tried to cob-ble together his clues and combine them into a kernel of the truth so we can pone-y up ta-ssel-ution. Let's corntinue to stalk this slippery-as-silk puzzle with ears (and eyes) wide open until we succ-seed.

Yes, VERY remotely. It's connected to one of the 4 composers involved.

It should come as no surprise that Bones got it.

"Fantas------------". That's more than a niblet.

The month is almost over. OK, Big, just write the British dudes so all can see what the mystery music is like. The American work was written by a guy who is virtually unknown, but it's based on a hymn tune by an early American who has a horse breed named after him. I'm pushing this music because I think it's not to be missed. Any more takers?
