Shapley wrote:I suppose one could begin by comparing an orchestral work to a substance. Each instrumental part within the compound would be an element which comprises the compound. The notes would then be the atomic structure of the elements.
Like the protons, electrons, and neutrons that comprise an atom, the notes are essentially the same, regardless of the p. It is the arrangement of the notes which distinguishes one element from another, just as the arrangement of protons and electrons determine the characteristics of the element they comprise.
As I know little of the structure of the individual components of the atom, just as I know little of the structure of notes and chords, I hope someone can provide some dialogue to continue the topic.

Yes, Drunken Sailor has lyrics about a hosepipe and the Captain's Daughter.
What do you do with a drunken sailor,
What do you do with a drunken sailor,
What do you do with a drunken sailor,
Earl-eye in the morning!
(chorus:)
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Way hay and up she rises
Earl-eye in the morning
Shave his belly with a rusty razor,
Shave his belly with a rusty razor,
Shave his belly with a rusty razor,
Earl-eye in the morning!
(chorus)
Put him in the hold with the Captain's daughter,
Put him in the hold with the Captain's daughter,
Put him in the hold with the Captain's daughter,
Earl-eye in the morning!
(chorus)
What do you do with a drunken sailor,
What do you do with a drunken sailor,
What do you do with a drunken sailor,
Earl-eye in the morning!
(chorus)
Put him the back of the paddy wagon,
Put him the back of the paddy wagon,
Put him the back of the paddy wagon,
Earl-eye in the morning!
(chorus)
Throw him in the lock-up 'til he's sober,
Throw him in the lock-up 'til he's sober,
Throw him in the lock-up 'til he's sober,
Earl-eye in the morning!
(chorus)
That's what we do with a drunken sailor,
That's what we do with a drunken sailor,
That's what we do with a drunken sailor,
Earl-eye in the morning!
