Big Brother. Has anyone heard of the reality television programme called big brother?

If not I’ll give you a short description of what it is about.
First of all it is a reality television programme aired in Great Britain on channel 4. What is it about, its all about these house mates that live in one house and are constantly being watched by cameras. You may be thinking why it is good, because there is a lot of funny tantrums, silly arguments and hard tasks. The house mates have to complete tasks in order to get money for there shopping list, so if they fail then there is less money and it if funny to watch the house mates argue over milk. One recent thing was that a house mate Nicky had used all the milk and had an argument will two other about how they had drunk all here alcohol, she said it was like gold dust, they argued back milk is gold dust.

Well you may have just read this and I may have wasted some of you time so I do apologies about that.

I don't think a member has the power to move threads around. You could probably request either the IT-Men (Sarge/Chris Larsen), if they are around, or Nicole Marie to do that.

I watched the first episode of the first season of Big Brother in the US.
Pass.
I'd like to see all of the first season of Survivor, however.

The Aussie version of "Big Brother" became so pornographic that it was eventually taken off air. For a year or so before that, it was shown in 2 versions; a sanitised one in the early evening, and an uncut one very much later.

I'm tired of reality shows, especially the sequels numbered higher than 2. Maybe if we could switch between countries. I'd be curious about the foreign versions but then they'd still be "reality shows" (negative connotation).

I can't really give an answer to that. I like rock as much as classical.
It's like chosing between puppy or a kitten (werid example i know, i couldn't think of a better example

I watched season 1 of So You Think You Can Dance? last year, and season 2 has just pared itself down to twenty contestants.

The show starts off with open auditions, and some of them are..., well, I don't know why some people insist saying they can dance. But some are spectacular. There are several steps of elimination until they come up with one winner.

Most of the contestants are one-trick ponies, they can tap, they can hiphop, they can tango, but they get a session with a choreographer in a different genre, and are judged on their versatility. Sometimes you're amazed, sometimes you're disappointed, but it's a halfway decent show if you get past the occasional rudeness of the judges/hosts.

I think Big Brother did a couple of seasons here in the US - at least 4? Never watched them. Just figure most reality TV is just a rip-off of MTV's The Real World. I used to watch some of that - liked the early years the best when they just had to live together, not try to manage a club or work on the same job. After a couple of seasons, you just watched to see how much sex they were going to show. When it started I was around the same age the people they were picking so it was interesting to get a different view on my generation. Then I think they tried to pick people who were either 'controversial', 'argumentative' or 'horny'. I soon lost interest and haven't been pulled into reality TV since then.
Even when a Vassar grad (Ethan) was on Survivor 4(?)(didn't know him - he was about 2-3 years behind me and a jock).

Give me a funny sitcom, intelligent drama or sci-fi adventure any day.

I used to watch MTV Real World when it first started many years ago. Now, I can't even tune in to MTV. I can't relate to the teenagers on the show because they seem so concerned with what the others are going to think of what they might say or do. So they have mini-consultations with their teenage "friends" to psyche themselves up to a decision.

The characters on Big Brother are just like the teenagers on the Real World except they're in their 20s but they behave like they are still in high school.

Watching these reality shows is like driving by a car accident, everybody slows down to take a nice long look but nobody gets out of the car to help. What a bunch of rubbernecks!

I surprised myself this time round, by actually not watching a second of BB UK - I just couldn't bring myself to (unlike the other series, where I'd declared I wouldn't, but watched some of it anyway). They'd obviously handpicked the most "interesting" contestants they could (even more than last time), with adverse effects.

I did, however, enjoy watching BB USA, one summer, a couple of years ago. It was infinitely better than any of our BB series over here; also rather less pornographic, if I remember rightly.

I don't justify the morbid fascination; I merely confess it.

Hi Shapley; I do apologise for abandoning the BBB, temporarily. I blame exams... for most things, actually; it just makes life easier to do so.

Speaking of exams, I too have started watching less TV. I need to read a mound o' books this summer for my uni application so I don't have as much time for it. It's great though - I think I had actually forgotten how much I love to read.

PS: a belated welcome, benkhanwitton. Nice to see another Brit's discovered the wonderful world of B.com
