Here's a post for music fans to share their "Wish lists" for CD's or concerts at your local symphony.

I know my wish list changes (or I should say increases!) daily!

Today, on my way to work, I heard a Ballade for piano by Brahms in G minor (I don't remember the opus number), but it was swashbuckling and it's the latest on my wish list!

Hmmm...everything classical. With just two CDs in my collection (actually four, I also have 25 Mozart and PIT Favourites) you can expect my wishlist to be quite long. So here goes... (just off the top)

A complete cycle of LVBs symphonies
The Four Seasons
Brandenburgs
Bach's Violin Concerti
Something Tchaikovsky

I've been thinking about this CD that contains the 1812 Overture, Marche Slave and a few other of Tachoikovsky's works. Bernstein and NYPO - it has a (colour) picture of Bernstein conducting on the cover...at the moment I can't find it on Amazon. Got any opinions on it? I'm just itching to get a couple of other CDs....listening on the internet is getting too expensive. I might just get some tomorrow.

I have one that is similar on vinyl, from the old Columbia Masterworks collection. It's very good.

Yes, I think that's the one - the picture matches. Although, I don't remember seeing anything from Hamlet.

It says it includes bonus tracks, so I would guess that Hamlet is one.

This is the Vivaldi disc that I have at home. I enjoy it very much, it's fairly inexpensive. It includes the Four Seasons concerti.

I got myself the violin concerti performed by Menuhin along with the Bath Festival Orchestra and the PIT CD mentioned earlier.

Shap, it does contain the Hamlet oveture.

(Well, those tags are supposed to strike off the two from the list. )

Bruckner - Complete symphonies

Dvorak - Complete symphonies

Brahms - Complete orchestral works

Beethoven - Choral Fantasy, Mass in C, Missa Solemnis, Christ on the Mount of Olives, Piano Trios, Diabelli Variations, Cello Sonatas.

DeBussy - La Mer, Claire de lune, Prelude d'un apres-midi d'un faune

Chopin - Piano works

Stravinksy - The Rite of Spring

Saint-Saens - Danse Macabre

Jerry Goldsmith - The Omen (1976 soundtrack)

Michael Oldfield - Tubular Bells

Oy vey! A long list.......

Any recommendations on any of these, especially the non-Beethoven works, are welcome. :shock:

My only suggestion: Re: Tubular Bells Get the original 1975 version, none of the later releases lives up to it!

Shap - I gather you are referring to the Tubular Bells II and III?

Poor Mike, his only hit. Rather than building on it, he just redid it, and redid it, and redid it. Talk about resting on your laurels!

B.com had a recording of Tubular Bells 2003, which Dan Played once.

And I don't like Tubular Bells. I do, however, like Vivaldi's concerto that he wrote those infamous four hundred times.
