What Was the Name of the Salvatore Licitra Piece?

Postby BigJon@Work » Thu Jul 13, 2006 3:17 pm

There was a piece sung by Salvatore Licitra that b.com once played frequently in the 4 PM slot, about 2-3 years ago. I haven't heard it for a long time and I wanted to request it. I think the song name was something like Jesu Croix and it was from a movie soundtrack CD if I am not mistaken. Can anyone help me with the proper title so I can request it tomorrow?

IIRC, HRH didn't like the piece or thought it was played way too much.

It was from "The Man Who Cried" Soundtrack. It was by Bizet, and is called Je Croix Entendre from The Pearl Fishers.

That's the one. I thought that was one of the finest pieces of tenor vocalization I've ever heard. Do you like it?

Bizet is my favourite opera composer. I like The Pearl Fishers and Carmen. My favourite work is Au Fond du Temple Saint. B.com has an excellent recording of it with Bryn Terfel. The whole work is full of gems, in my opinion.

I guess I didn't actually answer your question. Yes, I like the piece, and the Man Who Cried Sountrack version is excellent.

Well, we got somethign from the Pearl Fishers on Fri. but it wasn't Je Croix and it wasn't Licitra. It was Au fond du temple saint (Les Pêcheurs de perles/The Pearl Fishers) by Bizet, G. sung by Roberto Alagna, Bryn Terfel/The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Levine cond.

I'll keep trying.

Ask Nicole Marie to dig it out. I believe she was quite fond of that piece.

I'm sorry I missed Temple Saint on Friday, I was out of town most of the day, and couldn't listen to B.com. I'm not well-versed in opera but I really like that piece, and the Alagna/Terfel version is excellent, IMHO. Keep in mind, however, that is coming from someone who thinks that Magic Flute is an opera and that Gilbert and Sullivan should be allowed on Beethoven.com. :D

I requested Je Croix today. Perhaps if we hit them with enough requests, we can get them to dig it out of the basement.

Nope, not today. Thank goodness because I was in a meeting. I'll hit 'em up tomorrow too.

Bravo! Bravo!
I just got out of a meeting when I heard what was on. Yippee! NM, what was that recording? I think it sounded different than the Man Who Cried soundtrack.

I think if we could get more people to listen to Licitra we could turn them on to opera. His voice is so pure and without affectation. I'm firmly convinced that the affect put on by many opera singers is what turns people off.

I wasn't familiar with him, so I looked him up on B&N.com. Here's what I found:

Salvatore Licitra

I guess we could have listed him on the "Rising Stars" Thread. It would be intersting to see what kind of feedback hhsailor received on him.

I notice that there are no complete operas listed in his discography. I also noticed that some recordings of Les Pêcheurs De Perles do not include Je Croix Entendre Encore. This one does:

Les Pêcheurs De Perles

I think it was the Man who Cried track - the orchestra didn't match the Debut listing.

I had to order the CD. My word, that man has a beautiful voice. Here goes my Amazon bill, again

I just heard this when I was driving home yesterday. Salvatore Licitra will be singing on NPR's opera show this Saturday. I pulled this info from WFMT's website.

Did anyone get a chance to listen to this opera with Licitra this past weekend?

I'm not even sure which station, if any, carry NPR classical programming around here. I believe the Local University station is mostly talk nowadays.

Anyhow, my weekends are usually full, so I don't find the time to listen as much as I'd like, and when I do, I usually just pop in a CD, that way I get to listen to what I want when I want. I'm selfish like that. :D

I have to say that I was less impressed with the Joseph Calleja performance of this piece that was played today on B.com.
