No, please don't count this as a question, *ig. It cannot possibly be Calixa Lavallee because he died in the 19th Century, and our composition is 20th Century.

I have to give up. My sources do not list any more Canadian composers meeting the requirements. I suppose *igs point that his compositions do not fit the standard definition of classical music would be the reason for this, but I can't find anyone to fit the bill.

recap:

Quebec-born white-male composer born in 19th Century, piece written in first half of 20th. piece is orchestral and has featured instrument/s (according to title), no singing, it is unconventional (sounds at least a little like non-classical music), no unconventional instruments.

the composer is not Champagne, Percy Faith, Oscar Peterson, Marye's nephew, Vanya, or Willan. not Mathieu, bourdon, vezina.

shap, I don't think that would be the reason, it is a classical piece influenced by something else, he definitely worked within the classical genre.

I'll have to Google some more, substituting 'Quebec' for 'Canada', and see if anything else turns out. So far, the only others born in the 19th century and composing in the 20th have been non-white or female. Obviously, I'm missing someone, I'll have to look harder.

I triede searching for quebeck and composer on google and didn't find my composer. maybe because he didn't spend most of his life there.

I suggest we split the A-Z into 3 or 4 ranges and we each search a range.

I started looking just through A-C, but gave up. Too many canadian names that it felt like looking for a needle in a bunch of needles. :rolleyes:

I have thoroughly picked through the range A-F, and have come up with 3 potentials.

That leaves the range G-M to peruse. I'm taking a break to grab some tea. :flex:

How is your Beethoven statuette doing these days?

He's doing real well; he sits on the very top of my large book shelf that contains my entire classical CD collection. Just as gargoyles were needed to ward off evil from important buildings, Beethoven scowls menacingly down to any who would dare tamper with my collection. Sometimes I even feel intimidated... for instance, if I grab something from Chopin or Wagner, I glimpse up and feel like he's giving me this dirty look for not choosing the Missa Solemnis CD instead. Other than that, I'm still proud to have found it

Regarding this search for the canadian composer, I'll help you out, Catmando, and examine K-M and see what I find. Bignaf, why couldn't you pick some nice obsure baroque composer, so I could go through a list of those guys? I mean, canadian composers... bleh :mrgreen:
