Not silly at all, Mary. Everyone needs a cheerleader, and modest folk must then downplay the cheering as over-the-top. I am sure your nephew treasured your enthusiasm and pride, even if it ever did make him blush.
Ah Mary. I'm glad he had his recording released, and sad he is gone from your lives.

"An absolute star"

That, coming from his teacher, says it all!

Marye,

Really sounds like Aaron was a great all around person, a great soul.

Thanks for posting that article Marye.

Just got this email from the University of Rochester president (Eastman School of Music is part of the U of R):

To: The University Community
From: Joel Seligman
Re: Very Sad News

Within the past 96 hours, I have learned of the deaths of two current and two very recent University of Rochester students. Steven Harrison ’00 in the College and a current graduate student in the Warner School and Krystle Dixon ’06 in the College both died in unrelated automobile accidents this past weekend. Ali Shah Afzal ’07 in the College passed away at his home on July 21st and Aaron Brock ’03 Eastman, died August 3rd at his home.

Few tragedies are quite as saddening for a university community as the death of one student. The loss of four only compounds our terrible sense of grief. I know I speak for all in the University community in extending our heartfelt condolences to the family, classmates, and friends of Steven, Krystle, Ali, and Aaron.

The University has a tradition of marking such sad occasions with memorial services to honor and celebrate those lives lost. Notice of these services will be forthcoming as we formulate plans in the coming weeks. For now it is with an aching sense of grief that I report these terribly sad events.

Cat.... he was wonderful. Today I listened while his brothers spoke and wept at his funeral... today I listened while his parents spoke about their boy. I hugged and cried with his best friends. Everyone would speak about their beloved in the same way..... i know that... but Aaron - well he was an "absolute star"...

thank you... thank you all of you... i shall weep the rest of my life.

Great to see that Aaron Brock's music is getting some airtime! :)

Yesterday, BBB played his Aaron's Koyunbab Suite by Carlo Domeniconi.

And today I see that Barbara in Austin requested Aaron's Suite BWV 997 by J.S. Bach

I purchased the CD and got it last week. It is wonderful and I've already had several listens to it.

Marye, I did not make the connection that it was your Aaron who had won a prestigious award from my area. I usually try to get to some of the Schadt competitions, but I was not able to see anything in 2005 and now I am sad. Our local paper carried an announcement on Sept. 14 from the Allentown Symphony about Aaron, and I finally put two and two together.

I hope that you and yours are doing OK.
