I can't title these things. :(

This site has extensive video of the funeral of the Maori Queen, Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu. She was the most important Maori in the country, and a very influential person. You might be interested in a glimpse of the traditional Maori culture displayed here.

I've barely been to New Zealand (got off the plane in Aukland, bought a T-shirt with a tiki on it, got back on the plane), so I'm not qualified to comment on Maori culture, but the little I have seen seems quite interesting - an unusual combination of fierce and peaceful. And, of course, there's Kiri.

Actually, there's hints available for titling. When your cursor is over the URL button, there are two sets of code visible above the window (at least on my screen). If you code in
Code: Select all
text
the "text" will be the label. Otherwise, the url is the label itself.

Maori Queen's Funeral

This is how it would appear. Remove the space between the word group and the first ] and it will appear as a link titled: Maori Queen's Funeral.

fascinating. what do you mean when you say "a foreign culture"? a culture that is foreign to us, right? because the whites are the foreign culture in NZ.
their music isn't very interesting.

Indeed I was thinking of my readers, *ig. I've changed the title now. And as for the red print! I've decided to leave well alone. The link works, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Maori have some very nice songs. Kiri Te Kanawa has produced a CD of some. Most of the modern ones owe a lot to the Northern Hemisphere composers who provided the basic tunes, but the ones Kiri sings are original. There's another good disc by Inia Te Wiata, but that one may not be available any more. I have it on vinyl.

I've tried viewing other link's properties and copying what was done to title a URL, and have yet to have it work. It's too complcated, a royal PITA, so I don't bother trying anymore.

thnaks. :) that video is 5 hours long, I watched significant portions of it. trying to find the musical portions. the rhythmic chanting they do at the end is a little more interesting than the mournful melodic chanting near the beginning.

The chanting is haka. Most of it is the one the All Black rugby team perform before their matches. Every Rugby fan in NZ knows it. Even I can do the first two lines! The ABs have a nifty new one which has got people upset because it ends with a throat-slitting gesture. Perfect for a Rugby match, I think, but a lot of people don't agree.

IMO the only people who have ever produced interesting funeral music are the Roman Catholics, or at least the people who wrote their requiem masses.
I've usually been bored to tears by the dirges other people sing, and that includes other Christian denominations.
