I had to stop B.com (and hence Stairway...) since I was in the process of downloading a huge flie this morning (around 02:30 local - free download time). The B.com schedule has been slightly better suited for me in the past few weeks thanks to summer time in the US. I'll listen to the complete performacne the next time they play it, which I think will be in the very near future.

The Tahiti Trot is Shostakovich's orchestration of "Tea for Two" from the musical No No Nanette by Vincent Youmans. Shostakovich wrote it in response to a challenge from conductor Nikolai Malko: after the two listened to the song on record, Malko bet 100 rubles that Shostakovich could not completely re-orchestrate the song from memory in under an hour. Shostakovich took him up and won, completing the orchestration in around 45 minutes. The Tahiti Trot has been a popular encore ever since, and was used as an entr'acte for the ballet The Age of Gold at the suggestion of conductor Alexander Gauk.

I am now listening to Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique on the local radio (all movements)...formidable!!!

I am nuts about Spanish music - including that written by non-Spanish composers.

I still suggest that you avoid anything described as "Mariachi", particularly if the jacket photo shows pudgy guys in tight pants, short jackets, and lots of concho decorations. It's sort of Polka, con pulque.
