This is not a question, but a clarification: The discographies for Marshall indicated that he used tape as a performing medium - recorded sounds of fog horns were the instruments used in Fog Tropes, rather than actual fog horns.
I suppose that is a fine line, but I think it is significant. Wagner created a wind machine to simulate the sound of wind, whereas many modern composers would use a tape of blowing wind. (Granted, Wagner didn't have that luxury!)
