The low freezing point of ethanol also makes creating jello shots tricky. A heavy-handed friend (the one responsible for about 90% of my drunkenness in college) tried it once and let them sit an extra night and they still didn't really solidify.

Jello shots? What a vile notion. A horrible fate for perfectly respectable vodka.

Failure to gel is probably just like Piq said, too high a fluid-to-gelatin ratio. You have to preplan these things. Perhaps careful research should be done, with charts and graphs, so that optimum initial (hot) fluid and secondary (cold ethanolized) fluid volumes would be known.

Volunteers? (Don't look at me, I don't much care for the texture of jello.)

Tonight it is wine, instead of beer, for me. Apple wine from a Missouri winery not too far from home.

Tomorrow I play hookey from work to take my daughter out on the lake for a spell. Meteorologists are calling for fair winds, a high in the mid '70s, and continued global warming and glacial run-off. Life doesn't get much better than that.

Wheat Shortage Causes Rise In Beer Prices

It's now time to get serious about this. Oil prices are one thing, but a spike in beer prices is bad news for the economy. I'm writing my Congressman.

I don't like the taste of wheat beer anyway. The only wheat beer I've ever liked is Harpoon's UFO.
I thought barley was the main ingredient, yeast fermented the barley's sugar into alcohol and hops were the main flavor addition (Humulus lupulus) of the Cannabaceae family (does that have a ring to it?). I guess wheat would be an alternate source or an addition................I'm off to research beer on the wikipedia!

I finally saw Beowulf this weekend. I didn't know it was almost a cartoon (animation like Final Fantasy). The overall story was good but the Beowulf "chest-pounding" and overall megalomania was a bit obnoxious.....I'm kind of glad he "lost" in the end.
