Oh yeah -- ticket prices are killers. $$ is the reason the only live performances I've seen in the past few years is while chaperoning "delightful" middle school students. My parents live near LA and I would quite happily take a week off. Unfortunately the only person I could get to go with me is the above mentioned daughter, now 19 and at university 700+ miles away.

Uhm, OT, I would have to FIND the tapes first. And they are over 12 years old, so I couldn't guarantee the quality.

So, aside from that potentially mitigating factor, you wouldn't mind having several strangers come camp out in your home for a few days?

Wow, you're pretty easygoing!

I always thought Götterdämmerung would be a great user ID. It sounds like you are swearing with great vigor. I may reregister . . .

I subscribe to the description of Wagner as a great composer and a mediocre poet. That explains why the highlights are wonderful, but the looooong stretches between them are painful.

The Ring lasts about 18 hours without intermissions. There are about 2-3 hours of highlights. If you're watching, there's somethink to occupy your attention. If you're just listening, you have my sympathy.

I wouldn't say he's a mediocre poet. he's awful! he brings a new meaning tothe word awful! as bad as some Vogon poetry.

Just as well I don't read German then! I follow the libretto & read the English translation, which doesn't pretend to be poetry.

And there's always plenty to watch in the Theatre of the Mind.

This is a little sidelight on a Puccini opera for O.T. It's something I didn't know, though I expect he does.
