So have they helped you to fix the "view posts in the last 24 hours" mod?

Search function

Im looking for one of our several News threads. I search "news" - nothing comes up. Because we can no longer choose between topic and content in a search, I should have gotten a thousand hits or more.
Is this function case sensitive or is it balky?

(on its good side, its darned fast!)

In case I haven't said anything about this - I'm glad to see that the 'now playing' window in RealPlayer is back up and running! I noticed it working a couple of weeks ago, although I think someone posted that theirs had been working for a while before mine came on line.

In any case - good job!

The search function, while fast, does a Cheney as far as results are concerned(i.e., shotguns them). Since a search con't be refined beyond key words, it gives to many superfluous hits. Half the time I search, there are so many hits I don't bother looking through them - I just slog through the indexes.

The periodic refresh is incredibly annoying. I'm "constantly" logged on, have ~20 topics on my "posts since last visit screen", may read two of them, go away for two hours, leaving myself logged on, and come back to find 2 or 3 topics. Since I have no idea what topics were lost, I lose the chance to read/reply unless I slog through the individual indexes.

Except on Mondays, the View Posts Last 24 Hours might help with that. (I havent tried it).

I did slog thru all indices once, and then went posts since last visit, since all my slogging activity moved those topics into that sort.
Not a thing I will do often....

Do you try searching on posts instead of topics?

What periodic refresh?

How can i do either when it doesn;t differntiate?

I guess it's periodically refreshing, because it wipes out "posts since last visit" from time to time.

Think of how that's hampering your post count. The horror! :x

I'm looking for the thread entitled "Pet Peeves". I thought it was in Culture Connections, but I can't seem to find it via searching.

Now, I'm thinking maybe it was in Ryan's old forum? What happened to Ryan's forum threads? Did they get amalgamated somewhere else, or are they gone forever?

Hmmm, what would make a suitable "hijack" emoticon?

But Nav, I expect you to have all the answers to my questions and problems! :P

I think there is another thread somewhere with the word "rant" in it. I'll go find it and post in there.

:curse:
"Search" seems to be broken. It returns "no results" even on single word entries, when I know the word has been used. :curse: :curse:

"Search" needed to be changed to "Shotgun" anyway. I found it close to useless.

But I like shotguns. I can hit things, with a shotgun. This "no target" thing makes me very sad. :weep: :weep: :snivel:
